Consider adopting your competitors style of UI for the side bar.  Take a look at monarchmoney.com and how their side nav bar works.  It provides the same functionality without popping in and out of the UI/UX.

    Agreed, I also would like to STOP the automatic expand/collapse on hover. It is distracting when I move my mouse in that area, especially when I didn't intend to interact with the navigation bar.
