Only detect NEW Recurring Transactions when connecting or reconnecting account (edited)

This morning my credit card disconnected from Simplifi. I made the account manual and I re-linked the manual account to the connected account.

I got prompted to create a recurring series, which I already had. I skipped the prompt and unchecked the recurring series and I got my recurring series deleted. I had to recreate the recurring series and re-link associated transactions to it.

Now, as users, we need to remember to review the recurring transaction prompt and check the boxes to keep our existing series in Simplifi. The app detects the existing recurring series and does not create duplicates.

I propose not running recurring transaction detection when connecting or reconnecting an account. The result will be to leave current recurring series data untouched.

We are working on correcting this behavior so that only new recurring items are detected!

@UrsulaA, thanks for posting this request!

Does the "Skip" option that's presented not work for you?

    Please let us know!

I pressed skip and the existing series was gone. I had an option with the series presented before in the screen you show.

@UrsulaA, hmm. I did not experience that — when I pressed "Skip", my existing Recurring Series remained intact and seemed to be completely unaffected. I just tried again with my Amex card (disconnected/reconnected it), and my Hulu Series for that card is still there after pressing "Skip". Did you perhaps experience a glitch or bug when using the "Skip" option?

I unchecked the series when the check ran fearing a duplicate series creation. Looks like I should not uncheck the box when presented. It was unclear that the series was being matched to an existing one. The prompt should state something below the series that states the series exists and the program is matching.

I stand by the idea above, allow the user to turn off recurring series check before the recurring series check starts. Keep the data on recurring series as is on Simplifi.

@Coach Natalie - thanks for editing the idea for clarity. I changed the body of the text to match the title as well. [removed - accuracy]

@UrsulaA, recurring item detection is not a new thing — it has been in our support articles for ages.

And absolutely on changing the title! I didn't want the request to be confusing when there is a specific button that says "Skip."

Thanks for the clarification. Since November 2023, the prompt to confirm recurring income only appeared for newly connected accounts, not reconnections. I have reconnected my accounts at least once a month since I started using Simplifi. For reconnections, the series prompt did not appear (thankfully). I stand by the idea though.

I was just victim to this and it's heartbreaking!

I worry that this may not get many votes as its the sort of thing that isn't exactly eye-catching if it doesn't happen to you… but understand that if you do this its a nightmare.

There really should be more clarity in the UX about what is about to happen. Duplicates happen all the time in Simplifi, so I like Ursula deselected all the series. Big mistake.

I posted separately about my experience here.

It happened to me once too and I fell for it. Haven't seen it lately.

Hey everyone, I forwarded this as a "pain point". The plan is to make it so Quicken Simplifi only detects NEW recurring items when re-linking an account; existing recurring items would not be seen to check or uncheck. Are there any objections to changing this request to only detect new items rather than to disable detection altogether, and then marking it as In Progress? It sounds like this will solve what most of you are reporting here. @UrsulaA, what do you think since it's your request?

    Thanks!

@Coach Natalie I agree with what you stated. Detecting new items only works for me as long as existing series stay unchanged.
