What's the proper way to track changes in private stock value over time?

I get issued private stock by my company and the price is evaluated quarterly alongside an opportunity to sell shares at that price back to our parent company. So while private, it does represent a real, liquid, dynamic asset in my portfolio.

Currently I have these shares represented as a manual brokerage account. I tried updating the price to the latest quarterly value and Simplifi made it seem as though the stock was always worth the new value since inception as well, instead of what actually happened which was a change in asset value and net worth on a specific date. It fails to accurately capture net worth change over time and also loses information on capital gains/loss for tax purposes.

Is there a correct way to do this that lets me track changes to private stock assets over time?

Thank you!
