Have the ability to exclude from spending plan and or reporting on split transactions. Currently, it is all or nothing on the transaction. I'd like to ability to exclude part of the transaction that is a split.

For example, I have a $100 charge. I split the transaction between two different categories. I want $50 to be excluded from spending plan and the remaining $50 to be included in the spending plan

  • please add this feature! +1

  • +1 to add this. Super frustrating and time consuming to get good data without it!

I have multiple transactions that may be partially HSA reimbursable for example and I wouldn't want to include in reporting.

I also have part of my income coming from expense reimbursement which would be nice to exclude with the expense transactions I exclude.

  • please add this ability.

This will be particularly good when you have part of a transaction that is a transfer such as cash to a cash account. Scenario. You get $100 cash at the grocery store. This is not an expense. Right now you have to include it all or none of it. My inelegant solution is to put down $100 as an expense to sundries and then go to the cash account and add it there and subtract it from sundries. Thanks for confirming this is coming!

If you've got a Cash account you can set the category of the split to Transfer > Cash, then since it's a transfer it will automatically be excluded from your spending plan.

Hello, EL1234, I added a Cash account, and made it a "Asset" category. Now, it appears that I actually have that amount of "excluded" expenses as an asset, when really it's an expense. However, it allowed me to send the other split expenses to their proper category. So this is a convenient workaround. Thanks.

I often have a purchase where I will pay for a friend and they will reimburse me their portion later. I normally will split the transaction to show the amount they will reimburse me for to differentiate it from my own expense. I'd like to be able to exclude just that split from my spending plan and reports since I don't consider it a personal expense, but it currently only allows me to exclude the entire purchase.

I have a relative for whom I often purchase things online and then get reimbursed. What I did is I created a manual account for them. When I order something for them, I categorize the transaction (from my credit card) as a transfer to their account. This creates a matching transaction in the manual account. The two transactions don't count in the spending plan since they are Transfers, and the "Account Balance" shows me how much I am owed. When I get reimbursed, I categorize that transaction in my checking account as a transfer to their account as well, and a matching transaction is created to cancel out the amount I am owed.

This works beautifully with Splits as well (let's say I order a few things at once and some are for me and some for them) - since you can categorize each part of the split separately, only their portion is included in their account and hidden from my spending plan.

  • Users have been asking for this for years, other apps have it, pretty sure mint had it - why hasn’t it been in an update?

Would really make a difference in my day to day planning and financial organization. is there an update as to when we can expect this update to be implemented? @Coach Natalie

+1. seems obvious especially when dealing with paychecks.

  • any updates on this much needed feature?

Agreed. I would love to see this change made to be able to hide one of the transaction splits.

+1. The ability to treat the components of a split as actual separate transactions gets more and more important as reimbursements through venmo and zelle for portions of transactions becomes more common.

If splits were able to be treated as actual individual transactions this would also permit splitting of transactions (e.g. cash withdrawls) and linking a portion to a recurring expenses.

This is incredibly important. Important enough that not having it means I will need to use a different service.

I have individual treasury bonds maturing every few months. Each time one matures, it comes back to my bank account as one amount:the bond price plus interest. The interest is income. The bond is just a transfer. This is critical to Simplifi being of any use.

when is this going to happen??? been almost a year since it was planned. @Coach Natalie

If you create a (manual) account with the amount of bonds, you might be able to handle this requirement by splitting the transaction into 2 rows: the amount of the bond as a transfer from the manual bond account, and the interest amount as an income category.

@Coach Natalie why is this basic feature taking so long? Users have been requesting it since 2022…. Whats the roadmap? Its absurd that Quicken is taking 3+ years to implement this basic request.

My confidence in this product has been dropping when basic items like these take over 3 years to implement. Simplifi seems seriously starved for developers when it takes ages to implement anything.

If it were just one or two transactions, that would work. But this is basically asking me to recreate multiple transactions (and then delete the originals.) The bonds are just the most important examples.

In addition to not being able to mark one half of a split transaction as a transfer, Splits also don't export correctly. The split only exports as a category and amount, so the data can't be sorted or imported into any other program.

Is there an update on this? The split function needs to be upgraded.

Apple is now bundling their subscriptions, and things are getting out of whack. We cannot split the transaction to include names or links to a reminder about recurring bills. Right now, we are just stuck with categories and tags.

I've been waiting for this function to be updated for a while now, ever since I need to be able to exclude certain split transactions from my spending plan.

I'm getting frustrated because I’m not seeing any improvement in core functionality—just a bunch of small fixes or improvements.

This has been requested for years. It has been an issue for me ever since moving from Mint. I have found the best workaround is to categorize the part of the transaction you want to hide as a "Transfer".

You can definitely mark part of a split as a transfer, I do it all the time. Just choose the Transfer > Account category when setting up the splits. (The part that doesn't work, and I wish it would, is tying part of a split transaction to a recurring bill/income reminder.)

It would be helpful if, when you split a transaction, you could adjust whether each category split shows up in spending plan. For instance, I don't like to see work expenses in my spending plan (since I know they will be reimbursed). But my reimbursement comes with my paycheck. I want to see my paycheck in my spending plan, but I don't want to see the portion that is a business reimbursement.

You can create a manual account for work reimbursable expenses. categorize those spending transactions as a transfer to that category, and category the reimbursement (via splits) as a transfer to that category as well. That way those portions won't be included in the spending plan (because they are transfers), and as an added bonus, the manual account will always show you the amount that's still owed to you.

  • People pay for expenses on behalf of themselves and others (getting reimbursed for a portion of the total cost). Similarly, people receive funds where some of the money represents a reimbursement and some is true income (e.g., Venmo cashouts). Users cannot currently hide (from the Spending Plan or Reports) individual splits in a split transaction. It is currently all-or-nothing (either all splits are hidden or no splits are hidden). Please add the ability to hide individual splits in a split transaction.

Agreed. I see your customers have been asking for this feature for a couple of years now and still not able to do this. With the amount of money we pay each year, would be nice to have a program and a company that listens to their customers.

Are there plans to add this feature any time soon?

Hello - any update on this from the product team? This is the feature that in my view will make Simplifi complete.
