Target Red Card MFA

My wife's Target Red card account has 3 contacts for MFA. When updating transactions in Simplifi, a pop-up window appears and properly shows all 3 contacts with the option to select one. However, no matter which option I select, the notification always goes to the same contact, which happens to be my wife's phone. I then must ask her to send me the code….every time. Can this be addressed? Thanks.

Having similar issues with the Target Red Card connection. Since Quicken resolved the broader connection, I've been able to authenticate and it brings in the transactions correctly, however, it now requires authentication on a daily basis.

I've escalated this to the support team, and they're saying we need to escalate this to Target, but we have several banks connected and this is the only one frequently requiring this authentication. We also do not have MFA enabled on the Target account, which was another "solution" they offered.

This seems like an issue with Quicken and Target's handshake and not something their customers should need to escalate.

    Hello @BFowler52,

Thanks for reaching out! Sorry to hear about your recent troubles with MFA in Quicken Simplifi. To clarify, do all 3 contacts you see to choose from show the same phone number? Are you able to choose an alternative MFA option, like email, call, etc? Have you verified the contact information for MFA on the bank's website? I also wonder if changing the MFA information there on the bank's website will fix the problem you are seeing within Quicken Simplifi. Let us know!

    Hello @dunnnw,

Thank you for letting us know you're seeing this change in behavior when updating your account. I separated your post into a separate discussion since your description of the issue indicates that you're having a different issue.

Unfortunately, it is the financial institution that controls whether multi-factor authentication is needed and how often to require it. For additional information, please review this article:

    Thank you!

I understand certain banks requiring the MFA after a certain period of time, but Target requiring it daily is quite the outlier. We do not have MFA enabled on the Target account, which many coaches have suggested disabling as a workaround. We have several other banks connected to Simplifi, which do have MFA enabled, and those don't require daily, or even monthly authentication.

It seems like Simplifi isn't able to be added as a trusted third-party connection with this particular account, and it seems oddly coincidental that this started happening since Simplifi recently resolved the broader connection issue.

I'm also experiencing the daily MFA requirement on the Target Red Card connection, and it's been going on since the broader connection issue with them was resolved earlier this month. I understand the MFA requirement to establish the handshake/connection, but the daily frequency is not common. MFA is not enabled on our Target account currently, which was a potential workaround I've heard. We have multiple connections with other banks, which do have MFA enabled, and Target is the only one requiring the daily authentication.

Whenever this was resolved, is one of the steps to ensure the connection is able to add Simplifi as a trusted third-party connection?

    Hello @dunnnw,

Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, it is the financial institution that controls the way MFA works in Quicken Simplifi. Some financial institutions offer the option to disable the additional security measures, such as turning off multi-factor authentication (MFA), but you'll need to contact your bank directly to confirm if this is possible.

However, you may also set up when you would like a connected bank to update specifically. This support article goes into more detail on how to do this. https://support.simplifi.quicken.com/en/articles/10338690-managing-when-your-connected-bank-updates
