Transaction registers: we'd love your input
Hi there,
I'm Kirby. I work in product management. While I have a long history with Quicken (worked at Intuit after college), I'm newly working on Simplifi.
I'd love to meet you all and get your thoughts on some changes that are planned for the transaction register.
If you have time and are wiling to try out the changes in your Simplifi account, I'd love to have you [removed link - sessions closed].
In the session, I'll turn on the feature for you (it won't harm your data), and I can turn it off again quickly, if you like.
We are always eager to hear from you, and to check our planned improvements with you. Thanks in advance for your support of Quicken and I look forward to talking.

Hello Kirby…
Looks barren of comments :(
If you are including the Investment transactions you could start with a couple of my threads about duplicates, Investment vs Payments, categorizing, stock symbol searches, sorting / categorize by Actions, searching by a date range, and more.
thanks…

Hello,
I have two recommendations:
Add multiple expense selection to male update for mobile app version similar to what is already available on the desktop version.
Simplifi does not remember my categorization of the same expense from the same vendor.
Thank you.

I just booked an appt. I'm not sure what the changes are, but I'll give what feedback I can.

I would sign up, but I'm on vacation. I also previewed some of these changes (they may even still be on) and liked them generally.

Just noticed on Web App 4.70.0 that we can now once again update the transaction date directly from the register. Thanks a bunch. In fact, I had updated some entries before it dawned on me as I had been so used to doing it that way. Thanks!

Title: Show Total Amount for Transactions in Search/Filter Results
Description:
Currently, when I search or filter transactions in Simplifi, the system shows the number of transactions but does not display the total dollar amount of those transactions. This is a major limitation, as one of the most common use cases is to quickly answer questions like:
- "How much did I spend at Merchant X last month?"
- "What's the total income from this Category during the year?"
- "What are the combined amounts of these filtered expenses?"
Right now, the only way to get totals is to:
- Build a report (much slower than search), or
- Export the results and total them manually in Excel/Sheets.
Requested Feature:
Please add a total sum line at the top (or bottom) of the Transactions list that dynamically updates whenever a search, filter, or query is applied. Ideally this would include:
- Total Amount ($) of filtered transactions
- Transaction Count (already available, keep it)
- (Optional) Average Amount for quick insights
Why This Matters:
This is basic functionality that Mint and other budgeting apps provided, and it makes Simplifi much more powerful for day-to-day tracking. Many users, myself included, often need quick totals without generating a full report. Adding this would eliminate a major frustration and make Simplifi much more efficient.

I don't know if you are still looking for people to talk with you about the transaction registers, but I would love to be able to see my running balance in my transaction registers for each bank account. In regular quicken I have this feature and I think the visual picture of my balance makes it easier to see when my bank account is getting low. Plus in quicken I schedule my bills out and they post to the register in advance, so then I can see if there is not going to be enough money to pay my bills. Hope this makes sense.

The projected cash flow shows balances into the future based on reccurring bills similar to what you had in Quicken Classic.

I've noticed as of yesterday that choosing the date box from within the register now opens the calendar applet in both Safari and Chrome, so the behavior is now consistent. Good.
I also notice that I can use +/- keys and this works pretty well for one day but is problematic if you keep going. It seems then to default to today's date rather than the original date. I ended up postdating some transactions and had a heck of a time finding them to move them back. I've made a note to self not to do that.

In past Quicken products I found the use of running totals in transactions to be very useful. My many Credit Card monthly bills are not the same dollar amount each month. I need to know if my Bank Checking account will cover them. Running totals make it much simpler for me to figure this out. I may need to change back to my older Quicken 2013 version even though I had to manually put in all my transactions. D. Wilkes

I primarily use the web app, and this allows you to see balances into any future date by moving the mouse cursor to hover over the date on the projected cash flow chart for any account. You can edit reminders of individual transactions to have any amount you want. You can also add future dated manual transactions to the projected cash flow.
I get it if you don't like how it works, but all the same information is here.

at 0630 PDT the transaction pages are not loading. I'm certain this is a temporary issue and will be fixed in short order.
yep, fixed in short order whatever it was.

It's good that turning off Early Access restores the ability to view the Transaction Activity lists.
But this doesn't bode well for the new transaction register getting released (or implemented in Spending Plan, where we really need sticky register modification to be available).
Maybe it's something simple that's causing the conflict. I hope so.

@DryHeat They're still developing the new register, and something real simple could be causing it to fail right now — They probably made some code changes recently, and made a slight error which caused an exception to make it 'crash'. For example, an app I wrote recently ran into a crash when something the user did unexpectedly caused a for loop to count down rather than count up (instead of a for loop counting from 1 to 5 for example, it tried to count from 1 to 0 which is in the wrong direction for a loop which normally counts up, a quick range check fixed that in minutes).
Once the register is 'complete' they probably won't touch the working code too often, so it 'should' not break often outside of early access.

EDIT: p.s. in the case of my app, i had previously checked that the number of students was > 0, but what the user did unexpectedly (my sister being the user) was mark every single student absent, then tried generating random groups 'excluding absent students'. My fix was to verify that the appropriate number (in this case, # of present students when absent excluded) was checked.

@RobWilk — I hope you are right and that it is something simple.
We are, of course, assuming that it is the new register that is the problem. That seems pretty likely, but I don't know what else is part of the Early Access program.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like v.4.80 was fully tested against whatever is included in Early Access. Maybe they will do that now.

@TiggerTrainer, you can schedule a session at the Calendly link in the comment you linked above.
It is linked to the words "sign up for a free zoom session with me." I would definitely get something scheduled if you're interested!
