Target Circle Card transactions category keeps changing on me
The category for all Target Circle Card transactions changes to "Shopping" after I already set my preferred category for each individual transaction (i.e., "Clothing," "Groceries," etc.). It retains the category that I selected for some period of time (i.e., > 1 day), but at some point in the future it reverts back to the Shopping category. I change each item individually (not bulk editing). Almost all Target Circle Card transactions since August 14, 2025 behave this way. I don't know what changed or occurred on August 14, 2025 to cause this frustrating pattern. Seeking a resolution so that my chosen category sticks. This is not an issue with any of my other accounts.

Hello @msl2424,
Thanks for reaching out! It seems like you may have an existing rule that may be changing your transactions to a certain category. I would have you verify your rules to see if this is the case here. You can check via Settings > Rules. Let us know how that goes!

No, there is no rule governing this behavior.

Did you notice a pattern in terms of when this happens? The reason that I asked is that for me (and others, as posted elsewhere), pending transactions show up right away, and then if I edit them, they stay but if I don't, they disappear instead of clearing. Then at the end of the month when my statement closes, the whole month's worth of transactions download. I wonder if the same is happening for you, but when the whole month downloads, the category is reset.
See this link for more info:
What's even more interesting is that that issue also started in August 2025! So perhaps they are related.

I have been unable to detect a clear pattern. I don’t have the issue you describe of transaction disappearing: they show up as pending when the charge occurs (not in bulk at month end) and then they clear.

Hello @msl2424,
Thank you for the reply! Are you able to create a transaction rule so that Quicken Simplifi automatically recognizes and changes the incoming transactions based on the conditions you set? This way, you could be sure that the transactions are exactly how you want them.

Do you edit the pending transactions, or do you wait until they clear to edit them?

I have tried both ways to see if it makes a difference and it doesn’t seem to.

So interesting! Good luck figuring it out!

It seems to me this would only work if I wanted to categorize all Target Circle Card transactions the same, but I use a variety of categories for such transactions (i.e., Groceries, Clothing, etc.).

Hello @msl2424,
Thank you for the reply. If the transactions all have the same payee, this would be the case. Let's have you try the following steps to see if establishing a fresh connection helps correct the issue you are seeing going forward.
- Make all of the accounts with the bank manual by following the steps here.
- Once you see the account(s) listed in the Manual Accounts section under Settings > Accounts, go back through the Add Account flow to reconnect to the bank.
- If the connection is successful, carefully link the account(s) found to your existing Quicken Simplifi account(s) by following the steps here.
Let us know if this helps!
