Transaction search needs reining in

I search for “7.00” and get 1,490 hits including things like 57.00, which sort of makes sense, but also any transaction in it with a 7 anywhere in it. So 213.70, 678.60, 213.37, etc.

In short, search doesn’t work.

Try using "$7.00" (with the dollar sign)… that will narrow the results quite a bit. I still get the occasional false hit (like $7,000.00), but it works better.

    In my tests,

    • "$7.00" will match $7.00 or $7,000.00, but not $700.00
    • "$700" will match $700.00, but not the other two.

    That’s amazing, I didn’t know about the “$” trick!

  • Good to know. And, of course, an opportunity to tweak the user experience. Either make it clear near the search field to use the dollar sign, or (my preference) don’t require the dollar sign. Thanks for the suggestion!
