"undefined" shows up under Notes column after splitting a transaction with no notes!

Weird. I just took a previously entered transaction and edited it to split it into 3 categories. After I did that, all three transactions showed, one per line (I opted for that a while back; don't remember how, but I like it) on the Transaction Activity list, as they should have. But all three said "undefined" in the Notes column instead of just having it blank, like it was, and like most of my transactions are. Then when I clicked on one of the three transactions, specifically in that Notes field in the Transaction Activity list, "undefined" disappeared. Clicked on the next one and it disappeared, then clicked one of the first two again and "undefined" disappears from the third one I hadn't clicked yet! Odd. Did your developers unleash an early April Fool's joke? 😄

Believe me, I and many others would love to be able to include notes when we split transactions, but that feature still isn't implemented yet. The split boxes don't have a place to put notes. I'm wondering: is this a halfway implementation where we can split without notes, but once it's split we can enter them from the Transaction Activity list? Puzzling. I think I'll go try to enter notes on the splits that way….and I'm back, and YES, I can now enter notes in the splits from Transaction Activity, just not from the splits screen. Better than nothing, I guess.

I'm wondering: is this a halfway implementation where we can split without notes [on the individual splits], but once it's split we can enter them from the Transaction Activity list?

As edited, that is my understanding of the situation.

    Hello @KB2014,

Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm not able to replicate what you observed with "undefined" showing up in the notes column. Did this happen in the web app or the mobile app? Was it a one-time thing, or is it still happening when you edit transactions to split them? Does it happen in connected accounts, manual accounts, or both?

(I opted for that a while back; don't remember how, but I like it)

You can turn it on and off by clicking the gear icon at the upper right of the Transaction Activity section, then selecting Show split details.

@Coach Kristina I experienced the undefined thing a few times last week in the Split notes, but it disappeared almost as fast as it appeared. It hasn't happen to me in a while. I'll let you know if it comes back.

And I'm pretty sure I've seen it in the Category column but as soon as I looked again it was fixed.

@Coach Kristina I did this on the web version. I just tried it again and got same results, except this time it was even more ephemeral; the newly split transactions only showed the "undefined" notes for a second or two and disappeared without my doing anything. It's actually OK in that it serves as a reminder that we now have split the transaction into multiple transactions that can each be assigned different notes.

    Thank you for your reply,

I'm glad it vanishes quickly, although it is odd that it would be there briefly and then vanish. Which web browser do you use? Have you checked the browser for updates?

    Thank you!

I use Chrome on a 1-1/2-year-old Acer Chromebook Plus. It always auto-updates to the current version. Several others mentioned they've seen the peek-a-boo text as well, so I don't think it has anything to do with my browser. But thanks for the follow-up. I'm glad we now have the ability to add notes to split transactions, even if the process is a little convoluted.

I just caught a screenshot of the same thing! I didn't manage to catch the column headers though. I don't know if it's helpful but here goes:

Edit: This time it said "undefined" until I clicked into each box, then it cleared out to empty.

    Yesterday, upon the stair,
    I met a man who wasn't there.
    He wasn't there again today,
    I wish, I wish he'd go away!
