Platform Web App Update Notice

This popped up when I logged in to Simplifi on the web from my MacBook last night. This confuses me because this is a web based program. I've seen this a couple times, but ignored it. Last night I decided to click the link, and it disappeared. I update apps all the time, but since this isn't an app on my laptop, what is it?

@TheReal702, the Quicken Simplifi Web App received a new update yesterday evening of version 4.36.0. The notice you saw forces the update. Regardless of selecting the "finish update" button on the notice, the update will commence automatically when next signing in.

    I hope this helps clarify!

I have always taken it as just what it says, an update to the newest version. When this shows up on my screen, I click on it and QS reloads and that's it. But not sure what triggers it.

It's odd, frequently the app updates without me noticing anything, but now and then I get one of those pop-ups as well. I cannot easily guess what makes it appear or not … I suspect it's there so that the app doesn't update while you're in the middle of using it.

It's not an app, it's a webpage. This is why I'm confused about it.

it’s an app that runs remotely, but I gather each of us has private compute/storage space in the cloud where it runs.

An app that runs remotely? If that's the case, I wonder why I (we) need to update? What am I updating? Wouldn't the remote app updates apply to everyone?

I'm always curious about these things, but it's not that important in the bigger picture here.

If someone is bored and feels like explaining this, cool. Otherwise y'all have a great Thanksgiving!

That makes perfect sense, thank you. Because it will update regardless of user action, perhaps changing the text of that notice simply stating that an update will occur at the next login would less confusing to those of us that lack internet smarts.
