Have I lost my mind?? It seems there is no longer an option to add an expense category to the Planned Spending screen. Didn’t there used to be a + sign in the top right corner?? See screenshot attached. iPad version is up to date, iOS 18.2.1.
My memory isn't that great anymore, but the only + sign I remember was in Transactions to add a transaction or in Accounts to add an account. I know you can create a new category "on the fly" when entering a transaction.
Once you click on Income or Bills or Subscriptions, there is a + to add a new one. And there is one for adding a new Expense category once you click on Planned Spending. Maybe that's what you remember?
UPDATE:
Whoops, I was thinking of the iPhone app. Just went to iPad, and I cannot find it there for Planned Spending! And I am still on iPadOS 17 as it is old.
So this is missing in the iPad app it seems. Looks like you may have found a bug.
Yes, I am referring to the + to add a new Expense category once you click on Planned Spending, as you mentioned. Please see my screenshot of the Spending Plan where you will see ‘Planned Spending’ highlighted/clicked. Where is the + sign? There is no longer any option to add another expense category.
Yes, I see the same as your screenshot on my iPad and it is an older version of the OS so it's not that. It seems just to be missing in the iPad app or perhaps it is just being cut off in that corner. Once confirmed by one of the coaches, they will get it fixed.
At least you can do it on the phone app as a workaround if you don't have a PC/Mac; if so you can add the expense category on the Web.
Hello @donnajean & @SRC54,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I just replicated the issue on my tablet, an older tablet that runs Android OS, so this problem isn't limited to iOS.
I have forwarded the issue to the proper channels for further investigation and resolution.
Thank you!
Thank you. It was a good find by @donnajean. I use the iPad app only when away from home and mainly enter transactions, which I think is common with a lot of us.
@donnajean & @SRC54, thanks for reporting this!
To get a ticket filed for this issue, we'll need to gather logs from one of you. To send those, please follow these steps on the Web App:
@SRC54, if you end up providing the logs, we will also need your iPad's Make, Model, and OS.
Much appreciated!
OK, my iPad is 5th generation (don't laugh), iPadOS 16.7.10, Model MP2FLL/A. Sending the logs for my Web App presently. Sent.
@Coach Natalie
Don't know if you need it, but I sent my logs as well. My iPad mini is 5th generation with iPadiOS 18.2.1.
Interesting @donnajean that you have a mini with newest OS, so that likely means this isn't a rendering error. I want a new iPad but just bought a new iMac and have a fairly new iPhone so really don't need it. I don't use my iPad much.

@bobn11 In the meantime, you can use the web app or an iPhone to add an expense to the ‘Planned Spending’ until they fix the iPad version. Although inconvenient, that’s what I’ve been doing to get around the issue.
