Add Accessibility Options to Simplifi and the Community (edited)

I am visually impaired and use a screen reader to access the web. Your site should focus on accessibility per the ADA.

Here are my issues

  1. The entire login form in Simplify is not read by NVDA. Everything just says "Unknown"
  2. Graphs and charts do not have a description so I have no idea what they are trying to say
    1. In Community, I had no idea how to post until the rep pointed out the + button. It does not get focused with the keyboard and is not highly visible. There should be a New Post button next to the Follow button.
    2. On the transaction view, elements inside dropdown menus are not read aloud when hovering over them with the mouse while Mouse Mode is enabled with a screen reader.

    Hello @Rick P ,

Thank you for reaching out, and for your feedback. I have converted your post into an idea post, as I believe this is something that could definitely benefit the community and Quicken Simplifi both. Other users will be able to vote for and follow this post for updates going forward as well.

I believe this is one of those 'legal notices' kind of post, I believe The Americans with Disabilities Act TITLE 3 applies to commercial apps and websites, of which Quicken Simplifi is one. I believe compliance is mandatory, though enforcement may be lax (?)- I am not a lawyer, though.

This is interesting to me and got my "vote" because I am "at risk" of losing my vision. As it stands, over the counter reading glasses are not legally available to me in the magnification I would need to read (I'm somewhere around 5.25 magnification where over the counter maxes out at 2.75 in new york). On top of that, or why maybe, I have liquid behind my retina ("Central Serous Retinopathy" or liquid behind the macula part of the retina, the area responsible for sharp, clear vision). I have to be super careful about not using steroids as that can make this worse, and just this past 30 days I had to tell my Ear Nose & Throat Doctor, as well as my Dermatologist that I couldn't use the steroids they wanted to prescribe. There is a "risk" of vision loss with this condition, and i've been following it for about 2 years, right now every 3 months, last time it was a little worse, the time before it was a little better, the fact that it's changing at all is not "great".

Here's a picture - if i understand right, my left eye is on the right, and you can see the bump in the retina on that side - I sneaked this picture while my doc was out of the room:

I don't need vision support just yet, but i'd be much more comfortable knowing it might be there if i need it. I just started playing with the Cmd+F5 voice over support, I went through some of the tutorial but didn't have the patience to finish it just yet.

I don't think this should be in an ideas board. Instead, it should be in a bug/issues board. Non-compliance of ADA is a bug.

In addition to my issues above, the accounts menu on the left of the main screen does not read the headings or subheadings to the screen reader when in mouse mode. Mouse mode is easy to test. Simply turn on NVDA and move the mouse around the screen. It should read all visible text and there should be descriptions for images and charts. A developer should be able to easily fix these issues. As a software developer myself, fixing keyboard/screen reader issues is a regular part of our job.

@Rick P , I forwarded this to our product team so they can take a look and make some fixes. We'll let you know if we need any further info or data from you.

Thanks for bringing these issues to our attention!

Another issue I found. In the Spending Plan, the headings of the collapsible groups are not readable by screen readers when using keyboard or mouse navigation. I cannot tell what these say to add them here, but I think they align with the categories liek income, planned spending, bills, etc. Once expanded, the items within the accordion content are read by the screen reader, but not the headings.
