Improve handling of transfers from US Dollar account to Canadian Dollar account

(I previously put this suggestion in as an addendum to a post in an existing discussion on improving linking transfers in general. But I am breaking it out here because it really is a different issue.)
I'm looking for more flexibility in transferring funds from US Dollar to Canadian Dollar accounts. Such transactions have one amount on one side (say a withdrawal of $1000 USD) and a different amount on the other side (say a deposit of $1400 CAD).
Twice QS has correctly matched such transfers for me even though they had different amounts. The third time it did not, possibly because the transfer was larger and thus the discrepancy in amounts was about much bigger, about $1,500.
One solution would be for QS to allow me to manually match transactions with different amounts without quibble (as it did automatically the first two times). I find this a bit odd-looking, but it doesn't really bother me.
Another solution would be for QS to allow the manual match, but automatically split the "inflow" transaction to show one line (with the "outflow" transaction amount) as a transfer and a second line (with the positive or negative difference) as Uncategorized. I could then change the category for the difference to "Currency Adjustment" or whatever.
To clarify, that would look like this after the match but before I fix the category:
OUTFLOW TRANSACTION in US Account
— transaction amount is minus $1000, category is Canadian Account
INFLOW TRANSACTION in CAD Account
— transaction amount is plus +$1400
— split #1 amount is plus $1000, category is US Account
— split #2 amount is plus $400, category is Uncategorized
