Will Future Dated Transactions Eventually Show In The Reminders Tab?

Hi there - A very important feature to me for proper sorting is to be able to future date transactions which already exists (ie. i buy flights for a trip in August in January and i change the date of the transaction to August for sorting purposes) but they do not show up in the reminders (or anywhere really other than the cash flow area). Is this something the team is working on?

As far as I know, the reminders are a function of the Recuring income/bill/subscription/transfer feature and not actually related to bank account transactions other than to match the reminder to the transaction when the expense actually transpires. Future dating a transaction in your account register won't create a reminder.

I'm curious, how does changing the date of a January purchase/expense to some future date help with sorting? What kind of sorting are you doing?

Danny - i care mostly about being able to accurately use the reports tab when looking at a monthly or quarterly period. For example, i dont want an August trip's airline expenses to show up in january while all of the other expenses for the trip like food/fun etc. would show up in August. When i future date a transaction, it is essentially "lost" until that date and i can't edit or view it as needed. It does briefly show up in the cash flow statement but i couldn't make further changes to the transaction for example.

So this is about how expenses are showing up in your reports and not how a particular expense impacts you monthly Spending Plan.

Reminders have to do with 1.) predictability/automation of developing the monthly Spending Plan and 2.) to help with projecting future account balances for the account a particular recurring expense is paid out of.

Changing the date of an actual cleared transaction will not create a reminder for the transaction on that future date. I can see where that transaction might show up on the projected balance graph since it's an actual transaction in your account at least briefly as you say. You need to keep in mind that the account registers in QS are not designed to replicate a check book or accounting ledger. The QS bank register is more static. You can enter manual transactions as either pending or cleared, but the balance is always based on what the bank reports. QS will subtract pending amounts from the bank reported balance, but it's not designed for the user to treat bank account registers like a check book register.

Keeping that in mind, perhaps one of the problems with future dating a cleared transaction and having it "disappear" is related to the design underlying the QS bank registers. You could try changing the status to pending when you future date a transaction, but I'm guessing that will have it's own problems.

Have you thought about using some of the other options for transactions? Using a tag for your travel purchases so you can group them in a report, using the exclusion feature to hide transactions from reports and/or the Spending Plan?
