Per the Reddit post below by QuickenLee, moderator of the Simplifi Money Sub, car value automation is coming later this year.

Seeing this in Monarch Money and think it's a pretty cool add. They are using VinAudit to add the actual value of your car by prompting you to enter your VIN number. From there they periodically will ping that service back and update the value of your car asset.

Looks from the first page of this feature request that Simplifi will use KBB instead of VinAudit for car values. My car value with VinAudit was higher by 25%, which I know is inflated for the humble sedan I drive.

  • Looking forward to this feature as well as home value.

  • Yes please! From Mint

  • Yes, I really want this.

    +1 coming from MINT.
the automatic tracking of values for car is a must, as well as for Real Estate values (Mint used Zillow for it).
Please rise the priority on this request. Otherwise, many of the ex-Mint users will not park here

The priority is already as high as it can be. It's in development.

+1 vote for this. I converted to Simplifi from Mint

  • +1. Many other similar services have this feature and it's very useful. An ETA will be great!

I had to manually add an auto to my account when I switched from Mint. Mint automatically updated KBB values for vehicles. Would love if Simplifi did this too.

  • This is key for user from the free mint app who are now paying for Quicken. What is the timeframe of this functionality?

Yes, me too - coming from Mint, want this feature. Especially in paid service, when it was available in free one.

  • +1 former Mint user. Switched to Mint when Quicken did not provide what I needed. Will this continue to be a problem requiring me to find another tool?

it would be nice to track vehicle value as in Mint and Zillow feature for real estate

Any update/ETA for this feature? Zillow integration seems to be working fine now, so kbb would be very nice…

  • +1 came from mint and liked the passive tracking of vehicle value

+1, any ETA for this feature?

I'm taking risks with my access by sharing what little morsels of information i might havel, but as far as I know, no ETA, but a while back in the superuser forum I believe they 'accidentally' shared screenshots indicating that was being worked on (never was there an acknowledgment one way or the other). However, I could only guess what the delay is (I have no insider information there) or whether it's actually coming soon. Judging from the recent price increases, I would guess one thing they might be waiting for is the funds to cover the costs associated with such a feature, both the development of it and what it costs to pay kbb for the access to the data.

This year is about to end soon. Any update regarding the Kelley Blue Book car integration? Is Simplifi still planning on releasing it this year?

Let’s say I drive an old, beat up 1995 Crown Vic. For those who want this feature, what happens when the value of the car goes negative? If I still had payments - which I don’t - but the car was worth less than I still owed.

In this case, you have your vehicle with minimal value as an asset and another account for the loan as a liability.

I see it is going to be implemented. I hope it won't drive up the cost. Not sure it would work for me since I record a complicated transaction when I get a car that involves the trade-in, taxes, dealer prep, depreciation, etc. with the equity being a transfer. As the trade-in value fluctuates in Carfax.com, I update the depreciation and equity transfer.

BTW, when I used Mint, this "feature" of my car's value would never update. I would have to delete it and add it back periodically when I knew the value had fallen. I didn't find it so useful. Let's hope it will work the way you want.

    @SRC54

I don't track our car values, but perhaps I should. So I'm wondering, why do you track your car value? How does it figure into your awareness of your financial situation?

(I don't track ours mainly because I see them as sort of a "withering asset" that isn't really going to make much difference in either my short-term or long-term financial condition — unlike real estate, which I put in asset accounts and update once a year.)
