Persistent apple card 'payment' (transfer) matching issues

I schedule recurring payments to apple card for recurring charges.
Every now and then, there are other charges to the Apple Card too, for example, my Dunkin card reloaded ($25) so I had to pay that off separately and unplanned (not scheduled).
Somehow, the $25 payment to Apple Card on March 31st was automatically matched to a T-Mobile Payment transfer scheduled on April 13th. The actual Dunkin charge was $25 but the scheduled payment it matched for t-mobile was supposed to be for over $100.
This has been pretty consistent, Apple Card payments seem to match "any" scheduled payments, no matter the amount or the date.
I've tried "Exact Amount" "Limited Range" and "Auto" matching, it doesn't seem to make a difference, and this is just with apple card and just with payments.

@RobWilk, thanks for posting to the Community regarding this issue!
I believe you've posted about this behavior before. To clarify, what account is the payment to Apple Card coming from? Is it also an Apple Wallet account, or is it a different checking account? Is the recurring payment to T-Mobile also set up for that same payment account? Have you tried deleting and recreating the Recurring Series with the issue or anything along those lines? If not, I'd suggest giving this a try and then keeping an eye on things moving forward. You can also disconnect/reconnect the payment account in question to establish a fresh connection with the bank.
Let us know!

The payment is coming from a checking account (Chase TOTAL CHECKING), but the payment is originating at the apple wallet (meaning I paid from apple's side, not from the bank). Recurring payment is on same accounts yes. I've deleted and recreated other recurring series on this account, and it continues to happen across all my transfer/payment recurring series- It is pervasive for all payments to this account. Perhaps I should give chat support another try, I mentioned this to them a while back.

@RobWilk, thanks for the reply!
Do you know if Chat Support escalated the issue for you prior? If so, they should be able to check on the status for you.

No, What they told me to do was to change 'exact amount' to 'limited range', but that also didn't help, One would think 'exaxt amount' would be more specific,.

@RobWilk, thanks for the reply!
You can certainly contact Chat Support again to provide them with an update on what they had you try prior and see what the next steps are. Otherwise, if you want us to take a look here in the Community, I'd recommend:
- Deleting and recreating the problematic Recurring Series (let's focus on a single specific series or two).
- Establish a fresh connection with Chase by making the account manual and re-linking it.
- Establish a fresh connection with Apple Wallet —
Make the Apple Wallet account manual temporarily:
- Click the Menu icon (the three lines in the upper left corner).
- Select Settings and then Accounts.
- Locate the Account you'd like to make 'manual' and click the three dots at the end of it.
- Select Make manual.
- Click Confirm.
Check third-party access to your Apple Wallet information:
- Go to Settings in your Apple Account.
- Tap on Privacy & Security.
- Select Wallet.
- Choose Quicken Simplifi (or any other relevant third-party app).
- Make sure to select Allow All Activity.
- Re-add your Apple Wallet account.
To link the account(s) found to your existing account(s), follow these steps:
- Select the pencil icon for each account.
- Click the Link to dropdown menu.
- Select the existing account from the list.
- Click Update, and then click Confirm once each account selection is completed.
Once everything is freshly established, please keep an eye on things moving forward. If the issue persists for the specific Recurring Series or two that we focus on, we will next have you try the different 'amount matching' options to see if any work, and then gather the specific details and logs from you for an escalation.
Regardless of which route you take, please post back with the results!

Okay! No results yet, but:
(1) disconnected apple wallet
(2) uninstalled and reinstalled Quicken Simplifi IOS app.
(3) reconnected Apple Wallet
(4) disconnected Chase from 3 accounts (all)
(5) reconneceted chase to those three accounts
(6) deleted and recreatead my "next" apple wallet recurring payment, which would've been the t-mobile payment i mentioned earlier (i redated it back after earlier issues)
(7) My Apple card was used today: I used it at Uncle Giuseppi's Marketplace & T.J. Maxx - I'm trying to start using it more as it has my most cashback if i pay with apple pay….
(8) Those charges should be "pay-able" within a day or two, if it is, and things go as they have been, the payment to pay off those charges will go on the books as the t-mobile payment yet again.

@RobWilk, did you delete the Recurring Series, or just the next Reminder? If the latter, please try deleting and re-creating the entire Series.

deleted and recreated the entire series, the new label should have indicated that, sorry for not being clear

Not sure if this is "related" but it is related to this particular series (except, once again, deleting and recreating the series did not fix this either):
The "Applecard +$120.33" shouldn't be there. It's not in the reminders carousel, it was never a positive amount on the checking side either. I cannot delete it.

The mystery reminder went away on its own overnight:
UPDATED INFO: The mystery transaction showed up as a current transaction in my checking account, named "Applecard" and was a transfer to the same account (from total checking to total checking)

I don't use the Apple Card much but the whole Apple download thing is weird. It usually works BUT yesterday I transferred some cash to my Apple Savings ($500) and when it downloaded into Simplifi, Simplifi reversed everything. It said I had $500 total and $2000 pending when it was the other way around. And the balance was $500 instead of $2500!
Next update four hours hence fixed it. Fun!

You don't have to wait the 4 hours with apple wallet, you have unlimited instant refreshes i believe, just hit the recycle button in the apple wallet accounts.
This issue I'm reporting wouldn't bother me, except that I use the checking account Cash Flow to make sure i don't go below $0 in checking (I can always move money from a savings account in an emergency, or avoid paying a bill until payday rather than right away). The issue here is deleting my scheduled transfers from checking, which messes up the cash flow forecast in checking.

@RobWilk I could swear it told me yesterday that I had to wait four hours, but nonetheless with many retries yesterday, it didn't fix itself until 2pm. This might have been a Simplifi problem in addition because the Apple Savings always showed the correct balance but whenever I downloaded it (if it did download), it stubbornly remained unchanged for four hours.
Later in the afternoon the Deposit went from pending to cleared in Apple Savings, and that is probably what fixed it, but it was still weird.

Most of my Apple Wallet transactions download as cleared - the only time i see something pending is if i do a manual entry (I haven't yet opened an Apple Savings account, I was very tempted to earlier today when I saw the option, but then I remembered hearing something about Goldman Sachs possibly dropping Apple Card support (selling it to Chase was the rumor) so I thought before I opened an apple savings account I'd wait to see when things settle down with the Apple Card.

Rob Wilkens0 -
You are correct though I haven't heard the rumor lately. One reason I don't keep much money in this iSavings is because they don't allow joint accounts. I mainly use it so I can reload quickly and easily my iCash account. I use the Apple Cash more than I used to.
My local bank doesn't allow me to push money out of it to other banks so I have to pull it out, which I guess is why there as a lag as pending until the order went through. The money actually came out of my bank yesterday, the same day I initiated so it wasn't pending for long.
One of the reasons I was going to use the A2A transfer that is being tested, but doesn't work for this (problematic) local bank so far.

A2A: Because I had to delete and recreate my Chase connection (above) I just had to re-do my A2A connections. What's "weird" is after I re-set-up A2A it is available now (it doesn't require me to reauthorize the accounts) but it -did- require me to enter the account numbers (I know my checking account number, but i didn't memorize my savings account number, so it's a bit of.a pain to look it up, there is like MAX security on my chase accounts, every single time i log in (not thru simplifi) it wants to do 2 factor authentication.
Good lord: I just figured out how to turn off the chase extra security

Rob Wilkens1 -
And today I can update all my Apple accounts any time I want as you said. I guess it was updating yesterday but not changing anything. I have just update my Apple Cash again after paying the lawn guy.

@Coach Natalie The payment for Giuseppi's/TJMaxx ($38.03) was incorrectly matched (as described above) to the 'new Apple card T-Mobile' recurring transfer, where the recurring transfer was scheduled for April 13 (11 days from now) and for an amount of $120.33 with a "limited range" ($102.28-$138.38 was the range, and this was NOT in that range).
As a temporary measure, I backdated the 'next' payment for that recurring transfer from May 13 to Apr 13 so it's "reset" - though if you need me to recreate it let me know.

@RobWilk, thanks for following up!
Yes, we will need proof of the issue in order to review it for escalation. For the escalation, we will also need logs that capture the issue. To start, please provide the following data:
- A screenshot of the Edit Series window for the Recurring Series in question so we can see the Payee, Amount, Account, and Match Criteria.
- A screenshot of the Transaction Detail window of the transaction in question so we can see the Date, Payee, Amount, and the Recurring section showing the Series it's linked to.
We look forward to your reply!

Keep in mind i already edited back the 'next' day from may 13 to april 13
but:
And..
—
Rob Wilkens0 -
@RobWilk, thank you!
The screenshots don't match — the Recurring Series is set up for the Total Checking Account, but the Transaction Detail view is an Apple Card transaction and appears to be the receiving side of the Linked Transfer. Can we see the payment side of the Linked Transfer in the Total Checking Account, please? Or is the issue only occurring on the receiving side?
Also, can I ask why your mobile phone payment is set up as a Linked Transfer? I think our product team would like to know this since it seems unique to your situation. I understand that you are paying it with Apple Card and then paying Apple Card off, but I'm curious how you track your phone bill as an expense. Have you tried not having the Recurring Series set up as a Linked Transfer to see if that changes or improves the matching behavior for you?

The transaction hasn't downloaded on the checking side yet, it downloaded on the Apple Card side and just matched. Here's the 'other side' of the screenshot:
As per your second question:
-I have TWO recurring reminders for each recurring credit card charge
-FIRST is the actual charge to the credit card-SECOND is the PAYMENT from checking to the credit card
The SECOND part is the only way I can get an accurate cash flow forecast for my checking account after paying credit cards with known recurring transactions.
Not having it as a linked transfer wouldn't make the cash flow forecast for all accounts correct.
-Rob
—
Rob Wilkens0 -
@RobWilk, ahh, that makes sense! Thanks for clearing up both of those aspects for me.
To clarify, did you manually enter the payment side while you wait for the transaction to download, or did the system create it for you? Once the payment side downloads, does anything change? I'm guessing not since the receiving side is already wrongly linked to the Recurring Series, but I just want to be sure I understand the entire timeline.
Let's also gather this data from you for the escalation:
- The browser and browser version you're accessing the Quicken Simplifi Web App from.
- The OS of the computer you're accessing the Quicken Simplifi Web App from.
Please also submit your logs via the 'Send Feedback' option:
- Log into the Quicken Simplifi Web App.
- Select Profile from the left-hand navigation bar.
- With the Profile menu open, hold down the Option key for Mac or the Alt key for Windows, and then click Send Feedback.
- Leave all boxes checked, add a brief description of the issue, and then click Send.

The transaction and linking was synced from the Apple Wallet on IOS Mobile app version 5.27.1 (40346).
Nothing ever changes when the payment side downloads, but it will take 1-2 business days for me to show you it cleared if you need it.
I sent feedback earlier, but i sent it again now. - see above where i shared earlier reference id
I apologize if i'm sending brief messages with long gaps in between, we're assembling a hard top canopy today, it's supposed to require 3 people to do, but me and my upper-70s year old father are doing fine so far, plus I had an oil change today - and only now at 3pm am I getting to take my 'morning shower'.

@RobWilk, thank you!
I got this issue escalated and will post back with updates. If you have another example to share in the near future, that would be helpful as well. You'll want to send the same details as before, as well as provide fresh logs.
- A screenshot of the Edit Series window for the Recurring Series in question so we can see the Payee, Amount, Account, and Match Criteria.
- A screenshot of the Transaction Detail window of the transaction in question so we can see the Date, Payee, Amount, and the Recurring section showing the Series it's linked to.

no new charges on the card in the last couple of days, will try to use it next
EDIT: Used it today at BJ's Wholesale Club, it will probably clear by the weekend, then I can make a payment probably by monday. I wouldn't be surprised if it matched to the same t-mobile april 13th payment

I'll edit back the next date, but it happened again.
It's the same series, because this is still the next recurring payment.
