Not possible to set the flag color for a linked transaction automatically created from split
I think this used to work correctly. Nowadays, when I I split a transaction and one of the parts requires a transaction on the the other side, that is created as usual. However, I can't set the flag color on that linked transaction. The flag icon is not present in the list, and if I open it and try to set the flag it tells me I need to edit the other side. The other side does have the flag color I want, but it's not set on the linked transaction.
So, the flag color can't be set on this transaction, and setting it on the other side does not change it. Meaning there is no way to set the color.

Hello @dlezama,
Thanks for reaching out! When I create a Split Transfer from my end, I can see that the flag color can be changed from both sides. It looks like the pop-up error you see is caused by selecting "Go to other side" within the transaction detail window itself, however, this can be avoided by editing the transaction on either side. Is there a specific reason you use the "Go to other side" option? I am not sure why the flag for the side created by the split transfer is not shown inline within the register, but I can see that it is shown in the transaction detail window. If you can provide why you use this specific functionality, and why it may be preventing you from using Quicken Simplifi to its fullest potential, we can definitely look into investigating further!

Hi @Coach Jon
I'm dealing with this same issue now and I am 99% sure it used to work.
The transaction I'm trying to modify is a transfer to a manual account, and it was created by splitting a transaction that was downloaded from a bank.
When I hover over this transaction, there's no checkbox or flag icon to select the transaction or edit the flag. When opening the transaction, I can edit the flag, but when I save and close the transaction, no flag is displayed in the list. In addition, when my transaction list is filtered to show transactions without a flag, this transaction is displayed. When I open the transaction again I do see the flag I have selected, but that doesn't help me very much.
I also noticed that when I open the manual transaction, it seems to show me the original automatic transaction for the full amount - not the partial amount created when I split the original and categorized one part as a transfer. So maybe I'm flagging the wrong one which is why it doesn't show when I close it. And when I click to go to the other side of the transfer, it doesn't let me save any changes. I get this error: Cannot update transaction "XXXXX.", the other side of the transfer is in a split. To update it, edit the transfer transaction in the transfer account
This new issue is frustrating since I use this manual account to track reimbursable expenses, which sometimes originate from splits, and I flag the transactions once I've received the reimbursement. I filter by transactions without flags to see which transactions still require reimbursement (which is why I use flags and not tags, since there's no way to filter by transactions without a specific tag).
It's frustrating when something that used to work stops working, so I hope that you can fix this! Thank you in advance.

In a similar note, the lack of the checkbox on a transfer that was created via a split transaction means that we cannot select it along with other transactions to see what their total is. Another annoyance…

Hello @EL1234,
Thanks for reaching out! The pop-up error you see is caused by selecting "Go to other side" within the transaction detail window itself, however, this can be avoided by editing the transaction on the other side. Is your pain point mainly focused on the fact that there is no flag displayed in the account register for the split transfer? Can you share a screenshot showing what the split transfer side looks like so that we may understand the pain point you are explaining? Does this prevent you from using Quicken Simplifi to its fullest potential? With this information, we should be able to escalate this issue and determine if this is indeed a bug.

Hi,
When I edit the transaction on the other side (the full one with all the splits), I can give it a flag but it doesn't show on the split transaction and doesn't allow me to filter that transaction by the flag. This prevents me from utilizing this manual account to its fullest potential, as I explained above.
I can get screenshots later, what screenshots would you like?

Hello @EL1234,
Thanks for clarifying. I can see that when I test this on our side that the split transfer does have the ability to set a flag within the transaction detail window, but it does not show up in the register. This may be because it is part of the larger transaction on the other side.
I will follow up with my support team to verify if this is by design or if this may be a bug. Thank you for your patience!

Hello @EL1234,
I have confirmed with my product team that this is by design, but they did let me know that they are reviewing how these types of situations impact users and have a few open tickets related to this issue.
I would suggest, in the meantime, to create an Idea post requesting that flags be displayed for Transfers created from Split Transactions. This will allow us to gauge the impact of the request and update it as new information or changes come forward.

Thanks!
I was playing around with it a lot and after a whole bunch of times trying the same thing, it did eventually work for this transaction (applying the flag to the split portion). So I wonder if there might be some sort of bug involved. I'll post an idea about it meanwhile.

Also the fact that this used to work makes me wonder about the "by design" part. I wonder if the redesigned splits changed something that affected these transactions.

@EL1234 Any idea of how were you able to fix it?
@Coach Jon I agree with @EL1234 here that this is a bug, not a feature request.
I tried creating the transaction manually, setting the flag, and then linking. That worked to some extent. Now I see the flag set when I edit the transaction, and the filter also works correctly. However, the flag icon does not show in the list of transactions.

I'm not sure, I thought I was trying the same thing over and over, eventually it went but then I couldn't replicate it. I agree that this should be considered a bug.
