How do I roll over available uncategorized funds month to month?

Hello! πŸ‘‹ I came to QS soon after Mint shut down and have been enjoying the experience for the most part so far. However, one feature I miss is the "Everything Else" spending bucket that would automatically capture any transactions that don't fit into any of the other buckets I built for my monthly budget. QS has "Other spending" which serves close to the same function, except in Mint I could roll over unspent funds in "Everything Else" to the next month if I wanted; QS doesn't seem to have that functionality.

I was doing fine without this while I was getting paid twice a month, however I recently started a new job that pays me every Wednesday, meaning that some months I collect five paychecks instead of the usual four, which looks in QS like I have a giant surplus of funds. I would love to be able to budget those funds across each month that I'm only getting four paychecks instead of those months looking extremely tight on funds, however I don't know how to do that within QS.

I would really love if this functionality could be built into QS, but in the meantime, has anybody else in a similar situation come up with clever workarounds?

I cannot think of anything right off the bat but what I do is make sure that I don't have any expenses in the Other Spending. I either have Planned Spending for every category or I mark other spending as recurring bills or one-time bills to avoid Other Spending.

You can roll money over to the next month, which is what you want to do when you get that extra paycheck. But to do that you have to have Planned Spending targets. I don't do rollover myself because I consider what is leftover to be my Savings for the month. (I don't use Savings Goals either for the same reason).

It sounds as though you would like what is leftover at the end of the month (that I consider my savings) to be rolled over to the next month. If I have that right, you can ask for that functionality.

If that 5th paycheck is near the start of the next month, you could also "cheat" and change the date to the first of the next month. πŸ˜€

@SRC54 Thanks for the tip! That actually gave me an idea to try "cheating" by splitting my 5th paycheck across the upcoming 4-check months as a way of accounting for this. I'll give it a try at the end of the month. 😊
