Why can't I select a past date when creating a Recurring Series? (edited)
When I create a new series from a transaction, why can’t the series start on the original transaction date? For example, I set up a new car insurance series that recurs every six months starting on August 22, 2025. However, when selecting the start date, I can only choose future dates, which throws the series out of sync with the actual schedule. Allowing past dates when creating a series would keep transactions accurate and aligned. I don’t understand the reason for the current restriction.

@mm1234567, thanks for posting your inquiry to the Community!
When creating a new Recurring Series, Quicken Simplifi only allows the current and future dates to be selected for the Start Date. Although we wouldn't know why from a design perspective here in the Community, it seems that this is likely due to Recurring Series being an "upcoming" feature, meaning that the feature is designed to track future or upcoming items.
If you'd like to link a past transaction to a Recurring Series, you can easily do so from the transaction directly, as outlined in our support article here.
When creating a new Recurring Series through the Settings menu, Quicken Simplifi will only allow you to select the current or a future date. However, you can create a Bill for a past month from the transaction directly!
To do so, you'll want to locate the transaction from the prior month, select the three dots at the end of it, and then select Mark as one-time bill. Once done, the Bill will be entered for the prior month!
You can also use the "Link to existing recurring" option to have the bill linked to the newly created Recurring Series. Doing so will retain the date of the transaction while still allowing it to be linked to the Series.
I hope this helps!
