As a user, I need to enhance Rules to support payee Keywords AND Amount of a transaction, so Simplifi can recognize transactions made through money sending tools such as Venmo.

Use Case: Money sending tools such as Venmo is used to pay monthly bills, I would like to setup rules where the amount of the payment (in addition to keyword) are used to rename the pay. For example, If keyword is Venmo and Amount = $140 Then set payee to Cleaning Service, vs. Venmo + $150 = Music Lesson.

I am thinking of not renewing Quicken. I came from Mint and have been trying Quicken and [removed] side by side. I really like Quicken, but [removed] rule making is so much better. I need to be able to categorize based on amount and which bank account. I wish Quicken would do this…as so many others have requested.

Canceled my renewal partly because this request has been ignored for years. This is a very basic and very important ability that could have been updated easily since 2022 when it was requested.

I noticed the rules looked much different than the last time I checked them many months ago. They actually have an If/Then structure, they just need the ability to use other things other than the transaction name such as the amount and account of the transaction.

I need to make a rule that categorizes a transaction based on Payee + Amount.

For example, I have lots of Venmo transactions, but when the amount exactly matches $185, it's always going to be categorized as Babysitter/Daycare. I shouldn't have to manually adjust the category each week just because Simplifi lacks this basic feature.

I want to share some perspective for anyone coming across this thread. This discussion has been open for four years, and while the company has stated that they're working on it, the reality is that this issue will likely never be addressed.

I initially stuck with Quicken Simplifi because I believed this feature was coming soon—it was one of the key factors keeping me from switching to a competitor. But after years of waiting, it's clear that this isn't a priority. As a product manager myself, I understand why: it’s not an ROI-positive effort. Unless a PM actively advocates for "quality of life" improvements, features like this rarely make it onto the roadmap.

If this functionality is a deciding factor for you, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. Quicken is excellent in many areas, but had I known this would never be implemented, I likely would have chosen a different product. At this point, I’ve invested too much time to justify switching, but for those still considering their options, I hope this insight helps you make a more informed decision.

Would love to be proven wrong though.

Yep, been over a year for me and I didn't renew my subscription largely on this issue. Rules are worthless without customization. Others do it, no reason they can't.

Add a vote for transaction amounts as an available condition in the Rules feature. Something like this would match my need:

If payee contains "ACME INSUR X32"
And, amount is $38.34
Then, change the name to "Acme Insurance - Car Ins" and change category to "Car Insurance".

This comes in handy when the same payee appears but with a different payment amount. So, this second Rule would exist too.

OR, if Payee contains "ACME INSUR X32"
And, amount is $63.88
Then, change the name to "Acme Insurance - Home Ins" and change category to "Home Insurance"

You can see that the payee is the same but the amount is different. Without transaction amount being included as a condition, half of my categories would be wrong.

Until this feature comes, I will be manually categorizing these.

I own my own business, and sometimes I am making purchases to a payee (such as Amazon) for both personal and business expenses. When categorizing rules are made, they affect all accounts, so if the rule is set that Amazon purchases show up as personal shopping expenses, it doesn't seem there is a way to create a separate rule under my business credit card that shows that Amazon purchases get automatically categorized as business supplies. This means that I must go in and manually edit those transactions every month as Simplifi wont give individual accounts exclusive rules that apply to categorization of transactions.

Agree. It would be improved if categorization rules would also consider the account the transaction occurred in. For example, I use a separate account for rental management income and expenses. I’d like those transactions to be associated with either a Rental Income category or a Rental Expense category, and not a personal income or expense category.

I'd like to see this also. Sometimes the payee is the same but the amount is not. I have cases where the amount would determine the category.

I have two different payments to my insurance company. The big one is for the car, the little one is for the house. It's a manual hassle to get these classified correctly.

Hello…Is it possible create rules that will include matching on a dollar amount? This would help on my Apple transactions. My Apple transactions for Apple Music, iCloud and software subscriptions all come over with the same information. The only way I can distinguish between the different transactions is by the amount of the transaction. Thanks.

I have seen the idea posted before as well but I'm going to re-iterate it. Why are rules so limited on this platform?? Most other software I have used allows you to create recategorization rules including Payee name, Amount of transaction, which account it posted in, or any combination of those. Especially with major distributers like Amazon this is essential. Currently I can't put a rule for almost any of my recurring subscriptions or purchases for Amazon, Apple, Samsung etc.

This is just one criterrial that would be benefical. There are other criteria to be used in the rules such as what is filtered and the abilit to apply a flag to the tranaction(s) as well. I have alreayd put this forth in a an earlier discussion.

An example use: I shop at a local Walmart for gasoline and groceries. I use separate credit cards to keep track of each category because both purchases appear in the transaction as the name of the store and it's store number. I would like to be able to use a category based on the payee and the account used to make the payment. I have to do this manually right now. Having this capability would be very helpful.

I have this same problem but for some reason the gasoline always says WM Supercenter and the groceries comes out as wal, wal-mart. Don't ask me why it's different.

So I was able to have one rule for the first with category gasoline and one for the second with food. So far has worked, but if your download uses the same verbiage, it won't work for you.

Trying to back fill recurring Paypal transactions. Payee is always Paypal, which is useless. But can identify by Paypal + the recurring amount to categorize.
