Pending Transaction Disappeared

In late August I created a manual transaction when I wrote a $100.00 check to my child's school. The transaction had been showing in my transaction activity as pending for at least the next couple of weeks. I noticed today that the transaction is no longer showing in pending and has not posted yet. It is showing pending at my bank today, but my bank does not import pending transactions so it's not yet showing in Simplifi. Do pending transactions expire? I don't think a manual transaction should expire as it was intentionally added. In the rare situations where I do still write checks, it's not uncommon for them to be outstanding for several weeks before the recipient deposits the check.

Thanks for reaching out! To answer your question, pending transactions would not expire. If the transaction is missing and you have verified that it did not clear within Quicken Simplifi, I would verify if the transaction may have been assigned to another account within Quicken Simplifi.

Hover over the left side panel and select Transactions.
Search the listed transactions for the Missing Transaction.
- You can also enter the name of the missing transaction in the Search transactions field to help locate the transaction(s). Do not forget to clear your Search transactions field when you are done.
If you locate the Transaction, click on the transaction, correct the Account field, and click Update to save the changes.

Additionally, one of Quicken Simplifi's key functions is the ability to recognize and match downloaded transactions to manually entered transactions or recurring transactions. It is possible that the transaction was matched to a transaction in error, resulting in a "lost" or missing transaction.

If you believe this to be the case, just manually enter the missing transaction to correct your Transaction Activity.

@Coach Jon I confirmed that I was searching across all accounts. I also confirmed on an 8/29 export that the transaction (dated 8/20) was still showing as PENDING. The only other $100.00 transactions since that date are a transfer dated 8/30 (which properly merged with the bank transactions (I unmerged/remerged to confirm) and two manual transactions that do not show as merged transactions. I also searched by the Payee across all accounts, and the last transaction is dated 5/27. The missing transaction has now downloaded from the bank, but did not merge with any manual transactions, so I will update it to match what I originally entered. This still doesn't explain what happened to the original transaction and continues to cause me trust issues with the integrity of the system.

You know, we don't write too many checks either and if my wife writes one, it may not come in for weeks, so this is what I do FWIW.

If it's not much (these things are usually $30-$100), I just ignore it until it comes in. Then I go to the bank site and look at the check and then enter the information from it.

If it were something bigger I would create a reminder for it or enter a postdated transaction guesstimating when it might get cashed. If the date arrives and it hasn't been presented, I just postdate it another week.

I find checks to be a nuisance. My bank actually has a pretty good system for sending money to individuals, which we sometimes use. But a school really should have a bookkeeper who cashes checks within a reasonable period.

When you created the "manual" transaction, something you have to be very careful about (pn the web specifically), is that you don't click outside the manual transaction window while you are creating it. If you do, the window will disappear and you might think you created it, but it pretty much just disappears without any warning (it should really prompt to confirm you wanted to cancel, but it does not).
