It's a legitimate email from Apple.
Are other Simplifi users seeing this?
Is this related to a change Simplifi made in the way it pulls in American Express data?
I just got off the phone with American Express, and they confirmed everything is fine with my American Express account (as expected). This appears to be an automated email that is sent from Apple when an App Store purchase receipt link in transaction data is followed.
Try it yourself:
- Sign in to your American Express account.
- Find a transaction from:
APPLE.COM/BILL INTERNET CHARGE CA - Click Show Digital Receipt.
My guess is that something Simplifi is doing – a somewhat recent change, say, in the past week or month? – is following those links and triggering the email from Apple because I didn't even know about Show Digital Receipt on the American Express website until I talked to someone in their Account Protection department about this whole thing. So I know it wasn't because I clicked one of the links myself.
I saw some discussion in a Reddit thread about this that mentioned Quicken Simplifi, and it would make a LOT of sense if that's what is triggering this because people are not doing it themselves and still getting these emails.
