Simplifi changed the value of my vehicle from a positive value to negative, all on its own.

    Hello @MikeZ,

Thanks for reaching out! You mentioned that your account balance was changed from positive to negative in Quicken Simplifi. To clarify further, have you entered any transactions, or are there any recent transactions within the Transaction Activity register for this account that could be accounting for this change? If you view the original Opening Balance adjustment, is it a positive or negative value? Let us know!

There's 1 balance adjustment on 9/21 to set the value. It was fine until today when it went negative.

    So instead of $19,750, it's -$19,750.

    Hello @MikeZ,

Is the balance adjustment also negative? If so, editing the transaction to change it to a positive value should resolve this issue.

No. It was fine for a month. Then today it changed to negative for no reason. No new transactions.

    This is a bug.

    New update.

I removed the vehicle and re-added it. Now it refuses to display the value.

Before you ask, yes, I know what I'm doing.

And no, I'm not going to go through a series of troubleshooting steps. Just something else I'm not going to use.

    I am very disappointed.

I have a manual Vehicles account, but I haven't been able to reproduce your problem. I do know that sometimes (it lasts about a day) that manual account balances can get off.

FWIW, I track my car's trade-in value using Carfax and I have a transaction dated when I bought the car. I use tags to keep up with each car.

So my split transaction looks something like this:

    Feb 2, 2021 +16000

    Transfer +10000 2021HRV

    Transfer +10000 2014CRV

    Transfer -4000 2021HRV

I use transfer to avoid the spending plan and reports.

The first $10000 was how much cash I paid for it. The next $10000 is the trade-in and the negative $4000 is the current depreciation. When I trade the car, this will get zeroed out. I can run a report using the tag to find out how much I have spent the car. I could use a Depreciation Expense if I wanted to, but I just do transfers. I do the same with my Possessions account.

I've experimented with fees and sales tax, but I just throw that into depreciation transfer. I put the sticker price, fees and sales taxes in the note box.

I have all my cars going back to 1995 in this account but only my current HRV and my wife's car have a value. The others are now 0.00 since I no longer own them.

    Hope you get it resolved.

I changed the date of the opening balance transaction and the balance showed up. Now if it will just stay positive.

    Baby steps …
