Does editing an individual reminder change the "Exact Amount" setting for that one?

I had a transaction mis-matched.

This was originally (in the series) an 'exact amount' transaction, but I had edited the individual reminder because the monthly amount can vary with the budget. The transaction that was matched was no where near the exact amount (the transaction was less than $20, the reminder was over $800).

Does editing an individual reminder alter the exact amount setting?

I ask because if I need to I will instead create a series of "one time payments" instead of a series with edited reminders.

    Hello @RobWilk,

    Thanks for reaching out! I myself am not seeing a way to edit the Match Criteria for a specific reminder, like you can for the series, so I would not think that editing a reminder would alter the Match Criteria setting set for the series. This may have been a one-time thing regarding the transaction you mentioned that was matched incorrectly. Be sure to let us know if you see this happen again.

    Thanks for making a best guess answer, i will keep an eye on this going forward.

    Exact amount matching is NOT working for me at all, even on non-edited transactions, when the transaction is a TRANSFER transaction.

    It happened on a $4.99 Sirius XM Credit Card Transfer (to cover expense) to Citi. It matched it, weeks in advance, to a transfer of over $170, which definitely is NOT exact.

    Hello @RobWilk,

    Thanks for the reply. I would see if one of the other available Match Criteria settings works better for you in this case:

    • Auto Match: Quicken Simplifi automatically links transactions based on predefined logic. This may work well for common bills, but it may not always be accurate.
    • Any Amount: Links any transaction with a matching Payee, regardless of the amount. Useful for bills like utilities or credit cards that vary monthly.
    • Exact Amount: Only links transactions that match a specific dollar amount. Ideal when the Payee is used for multiple types of expenses.
    • Limited Range: Allows a 30% variance (15% above and 15% below) around the set amount. Helpful for subscriptions or bills that fluctuate slightly over time.

    No, I want an exact match. I don't want it to match any other amount. I'm telling you it doesn't work for transfer transactions. Do with that what you will.

    Hello @RobWilk,

    I can understand your frustration here. I believe that in the past, I have been able to have transfers matched in Quicken Simplifi. And I do not see any documentation on my side stating that transfers cannot be matched. With that, since Quicken Simplifi is designed to learn over time, I'd suggest some manual intervention by manually linking them when it doesn't happen automatically to see if the behavior improves.

    @Coach Jon The problem, which you clearly misunderstand from your description, is that transfers are matched incorrectly. They are matched to an 'exact match' when they are not an 'exact match'. Not frustrated, just reporting a bug. I understand if this is not important enough.

    @RobWilk

    I want to make sure I understand your problem, as it sounds similar to one I had using "Auto Match."

    I think you are saying that:

    • you had a transfer reminder for $170 using "Exact Match" scheduled for sometime in the future
    • you had a current transaction for $4.99 for some expense, and
    • the current transaction for $4.99 matched to the $170 reminder.

    Is that right, or was it the other way around, or what?

    @DryHeat You are correct, though step 2, 'the current transaction' happened to be also a transfer. The transfer, in my case, was manually entered and not matched, but when it downloaded from the bank it matched it as in your step 3.

    @RobWilk

    Does that mean that:

    —the downloaded transaction/transfer (for $4.99) matched (or merged) with your manually entered transaction/transfer (for $4.99)

    —and then matched (or linked) to the reminder transfer (which previously had an amount of $170)?

    @DryHeat Sort of, It would be yes, but swap the $4.99 and $170 whenever you mentioned them.

    @RobWilk

    Ok… So the reminder was for $4.99 and the downloaded transaction was for $170.

    Have I got that right now?

    (I want to get it right because in my case the reminder was much larger than the downloaded transaction. It seems that yours was the opposite.)

    Hello @RobWilk,

    Thanks for the additional information. To clarify further, have you only seen this issue occur with Transfer transactions specifically? Has it only happened this one time with what you shared here, and the previous time where you tried editing an individual reminder? Can you also provide a screenshot showing the details of the series not correctly matching, as well as the transactions that it is matching to/supposed to be matching to? Feel free to DM me this information!

    @Coach Jon I will let you know next time this happens, I had long since corrected this one by hand. These tend to happen more frequently around the second or third week of each month, as that's when I tend to pay my monthly bills.
