Yep, I don't like the print or PDF either especially if you do 12 months. It is not WYSIWYG. I've suggested that Print and PDF remember what rows you've collapsed for the Taxes Report. The same thing ought to be true for the Income & Expense Report. I think they ought to export to the PDF correctly and then you can print the PDF if you wish.
Also, there is a discussion of the enhanced reports that is in early access. If you have that, you'll see a "Try New Reports (Beta)" in the upper right handside of the Reports:
