Display future-dated transactions/reminders in account registers [edited] (1 Merged Vote)

I would like to request the option to see manually added transactions inside of the main activity transactions grid. Right now when you add a manual entry with a future date it moves that entry into the planned grid.

It would would also be nice to see those "pending" transaction reflected in either the overall balance of the account or another running total for pending or a running total column in the transaction grid.

This may have been asked before but I can't remember for sure. I think it would be really useful to have a toggle at the top of the register, near the "Show transactions since" year filter, to show/hide future dated transactions.

I understand that there are reasons that someone might not want to see them in the register, since they didn't happen yet, but sometimes I want to view/edit a lot of future transactions at once, and doing so via the "Reminders" carousel is extremely tedious and inefficient. I'd love to be able to toggle them on so I can see them in the Register, view/edit/create/delete them as needed, and then toggle them back off when done.

I'll be I'm not the only one who wants this. Thanks!

Well, you can hide the Cash Flow and Reminders using the carat above the register, and Simplifi will remember your selection until you change it.

I close it sometimes to save space and see more transactions.

To be sure I understand, I think you are asking for the ability to show "future-dated transactions" in the Transactions Activity register (where currently they never show), as well as in the Reminder Carousel (where they currently show). You want a toggle switch to control whether they show or not.

But I'm not sure what all is included in "future-dated transactions."

Does that mean all (and only) the one-time reminders, refunds, and series that are currently shown in the Reminder Carousel? (So the time period would be controlled by the "Next X Months" value selected in the dropdown for Projected Cash Flow?) Or something else? What about reminders that are overdue?

BTW, I picture this as a new section in the Transaction Activity list (above "Pending") entitled "Future." Is that what you have in mind?

This is correct.

I understand that it would be complicated with series (how many do you want to show?) so maybe skip those, or else just show the next one in the series, or the next month's worth. Not more than that. I need it more for future dated transactions that I created individually with a date in the future, so they kind of got "converted" into a reminder.

Showing them above the Pending transactions would make sense, i was thinking maybe they could be a slightly lighter shade of black (dark gray) or maybe just the date should be a different color or italicized so it's clear that they didn't happen yet. But I want to sort/filter/edit them alongside regular transactions.

The goal wouldn't be for cash flow projection as I can see that in the graph. It would be for easier editing and reviewing of the future-dated transactions that I made that are already considered in the cash flow projection. That part works well, but editing them / reviewing them (to see what's there and if any should be added/changed/etc) is currently very painful in the Reminders carousel if you have more than just a few.

@EL1234 Sorry I misunderstood, but I like the way Simplifi does it. Quicken shows them in the register but Simplifi turns a future dated transaction into a reminder, which makes sense to me, and I like it the way it is. But a toggle to show it would be ok with me.

No prob! And I agree, sometimes it makes sense that they are just reminders. That's what I think a toggle would be best. To turn it on, do whatever you want to do to for those future transactions, and turn back off.

In the meantime, while you are waiting for this to happen, you can see and edit an upcoming list of reminders under the bills & income section. Not like what you want, but better than the carousel.

Yup, I mentioned that in my original post. But it gets very tedious and painful when you want to look at a whole bunch of them at once and possibly make some changes.

I must have missed that. I thought you were talking about the horizontal Reminders Carousel in your original post, not the vertical list of Reminders under Bills & Income | Overview.

FWIW, I find the vertical list a lot easier to deal with. Particularly because you can set the date limits to whatever you want (even past dates).

Ah, and that's what I thought you were referring to! I just checked the Bills & Income section again in the sidebar and I do see the transactions there (of course I have to tell it which accounts to use, vs the transaction list which I can easily filter by choosing my account in the list).

I still stand by my request since over here you can't edit inline or see as many at once, nor can you see them in the same list as the current transactions and select multiple ones to edit them at once or to pull up a quick total. But it's still somewhat helpful. Thank you!
