How to produce a sales receipt for a paid invoice? (edited)

Does a means or method exist to provide business clients with payment receipts?

For many businesses, reconciling payments to invoices is adequate. However, I have a client that is requesting a receipt to acknowledge payment has been received.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not finding a way to generate a sales receipt from an invoice or an invoice payment transaction directly. Instead, it looks like you need to generate a Sales Receipt using the same items that were listed on the invoice to be able to provide your client with a receipt for their payment and an itemized list of what they paid for. That's unfortunate as providing receipts that correspond to payments received in response to invoices is what clients are most likely to want - in addition to being the most direct route from A to B rather than needing to reconstruct them on an ad hoc basis which one could do using almost any other software,

if not for this, what purpose is the receipt functionality meant to fulfill?
