Saved Reports in Simplifi?

I have used Quicken Desktop version for about 30 years. I would like to switch to Simplifi, but I cannot figure out how to save my customized report configurations. Before I can switch to Simplifi I need to be able to configure reports and then save the report so that I can run that same report again in the future.

    Hi Kevin. I understand where you are coming from as I made the switch to Simplifi from Classic. It is still a work in progress as QS continues to make improvements including some ongoing improvements in Reports. But QS Reports are still more basic than QS and there is no true ability to save a customized report.

    Here are the reports that we have in QS: Spending, Income, Income & Expense, Savings, Monthly Summary, Net Worth and Taxes. You have some flexibility in choosing accounts, payees, dates, tags, and some of the newer reports will let you export to CSV or PDF. And the reports will remember your last settings and filters. But as soon as you change them, it forgets the old report settings so there is no way to save a customized report. Also, unlike Classic where you can collapse rows and only print category summaries, etc., Simplifi doesn't really do that. You might be able to collapse the rows for viewing, but once you print it or export it, all those rows get exported too. So Simplifi's reports are much clumsier than Classic.

    The main reasons for using Simplifi is to have your data online and instantly available on all devices. You don't have to upload from the desktop to the Cloud as with Classic (even though Classic does this much better now). I still sometimes forget to hit the update button in Classic Desktop and get surprised when things are missing on the phone app. That cannot happen with Simplifi.

    What most of us love about Simplifi is the Spending Plan, which takes a different approach from traditional budgeting. You merely add your recurring income and bills; then you guestimate your other spending in categories, and Simplifi will let you know how much you will have left over for the month. You can set up a Savings goal too. Simplifi allows us also to exclude transactions from the Spending Plan (take it off budget) or even from Reports, something that Classic won't do. (The workaround is make it a transfer in Classic.).

    I have to also say that you can link your investment accounts in Simplifi but the Investment tools are much more basic than in Classic. They are good enough for most of us but certain things such as recurring transactions, cash management tools aren't (yet) available. Most transactions are ignored while the balance and portfolios shown are those reported by daily downloads. It doesn't take into account pending transactions or your manual entries.

    I also should mention that Simplifi doesn't add anything in linked accounts. It just downloads the current balance and subtracts the pending transactions you have. Once transactions are cleared, they are ignored. In manual accounts, Simplifi will add those but only because it has to do so.

    If you want to try Simplifi, there is a 30 day trial I think. Also remember that you cannot import your Classic file to Simplifi. You would have to export each account as a csv file to import into Simplifi and then do a lot of cleaning up, which is why most folks prefer to start clean with a new year.

    There are many other modules too: Bills & Income, Planning Tools (Retirement & Credit Score), Net Worth, and Savings Goals.

    I hope this helps.

    @Kevin237

    This has been requested for years and is supposed to be "coming soon."
