Renaming electronic payments (Apple Pay, Toast, Square, etc)

How are you handling messy payee names from Apple Pay, Square, Toast and and similar processors?

For example, whenever I use Apple Pay, Simplifi thinks I bought electronics at Apple, even though it is usually food. I can create rules to fix the payee names and categories, but that gets tedious, especially since Simplifi removed the ability to create rules on mobile for no clear reason. It also only helps with merchants I visit frequently.

The same issue happens with payment terminals from Square or Toast. There is no reason those names need to remain in the payee field when the actual merchant name is usually present somewhere in the transaction data. There is no reason why Simplifi can't strip out common phrases (TST*, SQ *, etc) and identify the actual merchant more reliably. I am tired of paying for a premium service that has little to no intelligence when it comes to renaming and categorizing transactions.

Has anyone found a workaround that makes these transactions cleaner without having to create a separate rule for every merchant?

@1280x720 Most of us either edit the payee and hope Simiplifi will learn over time or we create a rule. My Apple Card is not very verbose but I mainly use it to pay for my wireless.

When I use Apple Pay (usually), it is with my checking account's debit card and it is usually right. Though again I do have some rules for those too.

Over time, it should get better.

But I admit at my age, I go mainly to the same places. If you go often to different restaurants, you will probably need to create rules if you intend to go back. If I went once and wasn't impressed, I wouldn't bother. LOL

But I admit I tend to be proactive and enter my transactions before they download.
