4th of July Weekend: Sparklers or Spending? 🎆

With this upcoming weekend, we finally get to celebrate the 4th of July! I plan to barbecue with my family and see some cool fireworks light up the sky. I just have to make sure I don't go overboard with my expenses, of course!

We’re taking a little day trip to see my husband’s family for the 4th! Hopefully we’ll make it back home before the fireworks show starts here. My main holiday budgeting strategy is keeping my husband away from the fireworks stands—that’s where the real expenses add up!

We don't have much use for fireworks out here in the Arizona desert.

We are in the 26th year of what scientists call a "megadrought" — the driest quarter-century in 1200 years — so dropping sparks among the creosote and brittlebush is not a good idea.

Unfortunately, here in Alabama, everyone and his brother will be firing off everything you can imagine in my neighborhood. Will start tonight before dark and go until after midnight. Same thing tomorrow night (the actual 4th). Fortunately, we've had lots of rain so maybe won't start a forest fire. The Oakmulgee District of the Talladega National Forest is just south of me.

I was planning to go visit a friend tomorrow but now looks as though we will visit our family about 60 miles away for the afternoon.

I may watch some of the festivities for America's 250th Anniversary on TV. I did like seeing the new Air Force One in Red, White and Blue. Very patriotic looking.

Oh, I also made some turnip salad (instead of potatoes) to go with my grilled sausage. Low carbs.
