Hello and help, please! Transactions from my Associated Bank credit card are all posting as negative, even if it is a positive transaction (such as returns or payments). It is my main spending account so I don't really know if this is happening with my other accounts as well.
For example, I recently returned a purchase to AutoZone for $184.24, so the total spent is actually $0.00. However, Simplifi reported both transactions as negative, so it appeared that I spent $368.48 at AutoZone.
Obviously, this is a big problem. All reports and spending plan will be inaccurate, which is the whole point of using this app. I only caught the mistakes because I am in a season of life where I can check Simplifi daily. I won't always be able to sign on daily, nor will I necessarily notice these errors every time. I use the app to catch details such as this!
I asked the chatbot about it, and its reponse was that this is an INTENTIONAL FEATURE of the app. Here is what it said:
"Right now the sign of a transaction in Simplifi is determined by the category, not the bank download. Income categories show as positive (+), and expense categories show as negative. If you want it to appear positive, the only way is to change the transaction’s category to an income category:
- Go to
Transactions - Open the transaction
- Change the
Category to an income category - Click
Update
There isn’t a setting to make the app always display downloaded deposits as positive automatically."
Is this true? Does Simplifi intentionally ignore the postive/negative sign on each transaction and assign it positive or negative based on the category? So with my AutoZone example above, my Parts & Service category should be at $0.00 for the month, but Simplifi thinks it should be $368.48 simply because "Parts & Service" is considered an expense category?
If this is truly an intentional design feature, does anyone else think this is bonkers?
