Recurring Income Transaction Does Not Post with the Exclusion Settings Set in the Series (edited)

I noticed yesterday when an income recurring transaction posts to the checking account, it does not include the excluded option I have selected when setting up the recurring transaction. I specifically selected "Exclude From Spending Plan". After the transaction posted, I had to re-select the exclusion. Anyone else notice this?

Below is how the recurring transaction is configured. As you can see the report exclusion is noted on each split transaction.

I don't personally have any recurring series set up to be excluded from the Spending Plan (or Reports) aside from transfers, like my credit card payments, so I haven't seen the behavior you described. I'm also not finding anything in our help center that explains whether transactions matched to a recurring series should retain the series's exclusion settings.

With that, I think it would be helpful to provide some more details here in the Community to see if other users have experienced this, such as:

Is the transaction downloaded from the bank, or is it manually entered?
If the transaction is downloaded from the bank, is it automatically linked to the recurring series, or do you manually link it?
If you have to manually link the transaction to the series, are the exclusion settings lost after doing so, or does the transaction download without any exclusions?
Perhaps providing a screenshot of how the transaction itself appears will provide additional insight.

I'm a little confused by the image in your post.

—It looks like most of the splits are marked as excluded from Spending Plan, not Reports.

—It looks like the Personal Income: Paycheck split is not marked as excluded from anything.

Do those things have anything to do with what you are seeing when the transaction posts? Or do none of the exclusions carry through at all?

Like Coach Natalie, I hadn't noticed exclusions not working in my recurring transactions, the only exclusions I use in a recurring transaction is for transfers (both spending plan and reports).

Like Dryheat I too wonder why you have the exclusions set the way you do. It's your personal preference, of course, but I would include all of those in the Spending Plan since they do decrease the amount of money you have for spending since you don't get receive entire amount of income to spend. I might exclude the transfer to the 401K from Reports and Spending assuming you are transferring that amount to your 401K account. If that IAP 401K is a category, then I might include it too.

Anyhow, I'll keep an eye out to see if I can reproduce your situation.

To clarify, I'm not actually wondering about why @pastchief8 has the exclusions set the way they do. That's up to them.

I was just pointing out that what shows up in the image doesn't match how the exclusions are described in the post.

(Not all splits are excluded, and the ones that are are excluded from Spending Plan, not Reports.)

Just to clarify the picture is the reoccurring series not the actual cleared transaction. I'll post a picture of the actual transaction next week when it occurs.

As for why I do this, it makes it look like I have a large amount in the other spend category. I don't want/need to budget for taxes, etc. Hope this helps.

It sounds like the non-exclusion of the Paycheck split is intentional and your mention of excluding the others from "reports" was a typo — you clearly mean to exclude them from Spending Plan. So I have no idea why the exclusion isn't carrying over to the transaction.

But, in case it might help, there is another way to keep these deduction splits from blowing up your Other Spend without allowing the gross income to inflate your budget.

I handle this by setting up Planned Spend items for the deduction categories. I have a good estimate of the amounts from prior transactions, so I can make the Planned Spend items fairly precise.

What makes this work is that, before the transaction comes in, the paycheck reminder gross income amount (not the net) shows up in Income and the deductions show up as unused Planned Spend. This makes the overall effect on your budget just the amount of the net income — so it doesn't look like you have more money that you actually have for the month.

And it's the same after the transaction comes in, except that then the gross income is marked "Received" and the deductions show up in Planned Spend as "Spent." The effect is still the net income.

@DryHeat thanks for the work around. My issue seems to be a bug so quicken should look into this. I have no need to budget payroll deductions.

Thanks for the information. When the transaction comes in and links, and you take a picture of it to show the coaches that the deductions are being INCLUDED in the Spending Plan, then they will be able to file a bug report for you.
