Discover Credit Card Now Capital One – Messed up Transactions (edited)

With the replacement Discover card, I did not link to the existing account (old Discover) so this created a new account (new Discover) and downloaded all the transactions. The old account had the transactions and the attachments (receipts).

Idea- (1) Delete the new Discover account, thereby removing all the transactions that were downloaded without any attachments. (2) Re-establish the new account to the old account in order to keep the transactions with attachments. Any new Discover transactions that are not in the old Discover account will be brought down. (3) rename the old Discover account to have the new Discover account last four digits. (I use the last four digits of the account numbers to keep consistence since there are two accounts for about eight (8) credit card accounts.

Before doing this, I though I would post and see if there are any “be awares” or “other concerns). Thanks in advance.

Whenever I’ve done this, I’ve always tried to preserve the fewest number of accounts as possible. If a Discover ending 4645 transitions to the same Discover, just ending 6324, then I’ve followed the rough steps.

1. Unlink old CC from Discover 4645 account in Simplifi.
2. Link new CC to the same account in Simplifi.
3. Rename account in Simplifi with new 6324 number.

I think I’ve also just left the account linked and it just sort of transitioned over, but I can’t really remember because it happens so rarely.

I do remember following the above steps and have had very little problems with this approach, which is essentially what your suggesting, if in following correctly.
