@SRC54. Unless I have not ready this correctly, what you wrote is incorrect. I have tested this on manual and downloaded transactions and these are able to be changed from "Pending" to "Cleared and vice versa.
Well to be clearer, you can change a pending transaction to cleared, both manual and downloaded, but you cannot change a downloaded transaction from cleared back to pending. At least I cannot. Here's the error message I got.
Maybe if I disconnected the account, it might let me. I don't know. But once it has been downloaded and marked cleared, it is stuck. QS wouldn't see if any reason to do that, but if you are automatically going to clear transactions after several days, then this might be needed.
I can do it as i tried. I have downloaded a transaction from a credit card company (Capital One), which is now marked as cleared. I have changed it to pending and saved the change. I did not get the error message as you have shown. So, don't know what is the difference. One of the Coaches might be able to asisst.
Very interesting, and thanks for sharing. Are you sure it was downloaded. You are using QBP, right? I use QS, but I don't see why this would be different. Another QBP user can test.
I am using the QBP and I agree, it should not make a difference. Now is the time for the Coaches to come in to the thread.
Since this is a feature request and not a bug report, the coaches may not respond. Is this Capital One card the one you have trouble with pending transactions not getting cleared? Does it happen with other accounts?
If it is just this account, you might want to make this account manual and then reconnect because something is definitely wrong if your transactions aren't being cleared even if you did enter them manually.
I know with my Capital One checking account, Capital One does not download pending transactions and it is real bad about updating the balance 3-4 hours before clearing the transaction. So I sometimes do clear a transaction if I don't want to wait. If it is not clearing the transaction, then I think maybe it is not downloading the transaction, which would explain why you can switch it back to cleared. Are you sure you don't have a duplicate transaction that has cleared already and not matched.
This sounds like you might want to make a bug report.
I experimented with this on QBP and found:
If I mark a manually entered transaction as cleared and hit update I can change it back.
If I mark a downloaded transaction as cleared and hit update I cannot change it back.
Hello @Dick_Davis,
Thank you for sharing your experience! I moved this to a new discussion so that it doesn't pull the discussion of the Idea off-topic.
When I tested in Quicken Simplifi and in Quicken Business & Personal, I observed that I could change manual transactions back and forth, but transactions downloaded as cleared would not change to pending. I saw the same message as @SRC54. I tried testing with a transaction that is pending with my bank. It let me change it to cleared, but when I tried to change it back to pending, it would not let me.
Do you recall which financial institution the transactions you were able to change to pending were with? Does this happen with any specific account type or type of transaction?
I look forward to your reply!
Well, to attempt to answer the question of which institution, I walked through each financial institution. Now, I am getting what was reported by SRC. So, since I am getting the same response (error message), I have to withdraw my comments. There is no further information to add.
