Hi folks,
I am hoping you can help me with a problem. Before I start, here are my system details: MacBook Air 15-inch, M4, 2025, macOS Tahoe 26.5.1, Safari 26.5, using Simplifi in the web app.
Today Simplifi forced me to disconnect and reconnect to my bank.
When I did, I found I had a duplicate account. I am sure the problem lies in the following.
In my banking app the account is named "LD¿s new checking". That upside-down question mark is sitting where an apostrophe is supposed to be. It has been that way in my bank's own app all along, so the bad character is coming from the bank, not from Simplifi. (LD stands in for my initials.)
My original Simplifi account is named "LD¿s new checking" as well, upside-down question mark and all. So Simplifi was able to import the weird name up until now and didn't correct it.
The duplicate account that showed up today is named "GCB LD's new checking". Simplifi completely changed the account name.
The old account, "LD¿s new checking", has a long history and all the categories, notes, and tags I have added. The new account, "GCB LD's new checking", only goes back to June and has none of my edits.
I found the instructions for deleting an account, so I understand how to do that. But I don't think deleting will help, since the problem will just recur if Simplifi keeps changing the account name.
I also thought about disconnecting Simplifi from my bank, then renaming the account in my banking app and in Simplifi to "New checking". But I am afraid Simplifi still won't read the accounts as the same one. I am guessing a name I type into Simplifi myself is not the same electronic makeup as a name imported from the bank.
Separately, I would like to make a backup before I try anything. I exported to CSV, but my tags, notes, and check numbers were not in the file. I must be missing something.
Do you have any suggestions about how to move forward?
Thank you for helping with this!
