I’ve been using Quicken Simplifi for a couple of years. Unfortunately, its never learned correctly rename transactions. I would like to turn off Simplifi’s automatic transaction name changes.
There is more helpful information on this in the other Quicken product's forum:
https://community.quicken.com/discussion/7958328/issues-with-automatic-payee-renaming
It appears Quicken is throwing up their hands and saying it's a provider issue, "we can never fix it!".
I suggest a simple fix: just allow users to substitute the "appears on your statement as" field in lieu of the data provider's "Payee" name field.
Here's an example just in case the issue is unclear.
Hi @Dognose,
Thanks for sharing the screenshot! This is helpful. I can see that the transaction is coming in with TIDAL.COM NEW YORK FL as the statement description, but the Payee is being shown as Project Panther.
Before we determine whether this is coming from Quicken Simplifi's built-in renaming, let's check your Transaction Rules to make sure there isn't an existing rule that's changing the Payee.
Since you're using the mobile app, please go to Menu > Settings > Rules and take a look at the rules currently listed there. In particular, check for any rule that may be renaming transactions to Project Panther.
If you find one, let us know what the rule is set to do. If there doesn't appear to be a rule causing this, let us know as well, and we can look at the next steps.
Confirmed. I have no rules associated with either Tidal or Project Panther (whatever that may be.)
If helpful I can add more screenshots. You may also note that I've previously posted on this concern.
Thank you for your reply,
Is this the discussion you're referring to?
Have you tried creating rules to ensure the Payee names display correctly, as recommended in the earlier discussion?
Thank you!
@Coach Kristina I have had this problem as well. Are you suggesting that we need a rule for each payee telling Simplifi to rename its transactions as itself, to prevent them from being renamed to something completely unrelated? That sounds counterintuitive, and frustrating/annoying to create and maintain.
Yes. That was the previous post.
I’ve tried renaming payees with rules, but I feel I’m always bumping into new miscategorizations. And I like to have as few rules as possible. It gets confusing when rules layer on rules. Thanks for anything you can do to get this on the developer’s radar.
One additional datapoint: I’ve been testing a competing product over the weekend. It renames aggressively as well, but so far, I’ve not found any misnamed transactions. All of its name cleanup has been correct and helpful, and the auto categorize function correct almost always.
Still, I want to stick with Simplifi. Pls help me stay put!
While I get mistakes sometimes, it isn't often, and if it happens to a particular payee a few times, I make a rule.
With all the work going on with software AI, I expect this will get better.
Honestly, I think it got worse at some point over the last year or so.
It seems that way. It could be due to all the innovations in the app.
that strategy probably works well for folks with stable spending patterns. My spending changes frequently, new payees, different accounts… rule-based renaming doesn’t work well for me.
Is this because you are using the Business version or do you just vary so much your shopping patterns? I admit I go to the same places each week and online (it's Amazon or Walmart). Also, I tend to enter manual transactions a lot especially when I shop a new store or business because I figure Simplifi won't know what to do with it. I even go to the same restaurant but only every other month.
I'm in a rut! 😄
Thanks for the additional information. I did some checking, and there is an existing Feature Request that may be a good fit for what you're requesting:
Ability to create a Transaction Rule to not modify the payee name sent by the bank
This Idea is currently marked Active and requests the ability to create a rule that prevents Quicken Simplifi from modifying the Payee name provided by the bank. I’d recommend adding your vote and any additional details to that Idea so the request and use cases can be tracked together.
If your specific request is to have a global option to disable Quicken Simplifi's automatic payee renaming altogether, you can create an Idea specifically for that functionality here:

Thanks again for taking the time to share the feedback!
I like to blame AI :D
We also were always told that Simplifi will learn over time and just by us changing categories and payee names, it would copy us in the future. But there are some monthly transactions (I can't remember which one I saw a lot recently) that I need to make the same changes each month. I haven't set up rules because I want to see if Simplifi will actually learn from what I do.
Not a business. Just have a weird, lumpy spend pattern. This is why I need a product like simplifi.
