I really like the new customizable dashboard in Quicken Simplifi, especially the ability to show, hide, and rearrange widgets. However, one limitation is that we can only display a single instance of each widget.
I'd love the ability to duplicate or add multiple instances of any dashboard widget, with independent filters and settings for each one.
Example: Net Worth
I'd like to display two Net Worth widgets side by side:
- Total Net Worth: Includes all accounts, investments, real estate, and vehicles.
- Financial Net Worth: Excludes real estate and vehicles, allowing me to track changes in investments, savings, and cash without property-value fluctuations affecting the chart.
Currently, I have to switch the account filters back and forth to view these separately.
Other potential uses:
- Spending: One widget showing total monthly spending and another showing specific categories or discretionary spending.
- Income: Compare different time periods or income sources.
- Investments: Track different investment accounts or account groups independently.
- Top Spending Categories: Compare category breakdowns across different time periods.
Suggested functionality:
- Add or duplicate multiple instances of the same widget.
- Save independent account selections, filters, and date ranges for each instance.
- Optionally give widgets custom titles.
- Rearrange and resize each widget independently.
- Remember each widget's configuration between sessions.
The existing reports already support many of these filters, so being able to save multiple customized views on the dashboard would make it much more powerful.
I think this would be a great next step for dashboard customization and would let users create dashboards tailored to how they actually manage their finances.
