I'm reporting what I believe to be a bug: Manually entered historical performance data is ignored if the investment account is "connected" instead of "manual". The Performance tab will show the "Insufficient Data" message even if I manually enter a complete transaction history and import historical balance data.
Here is what I tried:
1) I connected my eTrade account which hasn't had any activity since 2022. No transactions were downloaded, presumably since the last activity was several years ago.
2) I manually entered all my transactions along with proper transfers to other accounts also tracked by Simplifi. I also imported my complete balance history based on my holdings over time.
3) I noticed that TWR and IRR charts were always showing the "Insufficient Data" message.
4) I switched the account to a Manual account.
5) After switching to a manual account, the Performance data works properly and I can see accurate TWR and IRR calculations based on my balance history and transactions.
6) I switched the account back to a "connected" account. The performance data once again does not work and I get the "Insufficient Data" message.
So, why does it do this? All of the information needed for performance calculations is there and works when the account is flagged as manual. I would expect that a connected account with manually entered historical transactions and balance history to use that data for its calculations.
I assume when an account is flagged as connected, its only using the data it directly gets from that institution and ignores everything else. This is not ideal because it means you can never have a connected account with backfilled history. The only workaround I see for historical performance is to always have every investment account as a manual account.
In short, connected accounts should also use the manually provided balance history and manually entered transactions, just like manual accounts.
