The holiday season is just around the corner, and while it's an exciting time of year, it can also get a little expensive!

Whether it's finding creative ways to save on gifts, stretching your grocery budget, taking advantage of deals, or keeping holiday spending in check, we'd love to hear your tips and tricks.

What's one thing you do to save money during the holiday season?

I'll go first! I like to save up my credit card rewards throughout the year and put them toward Christmas gifts. I also try to start shopping early so I can take advantage of Black Friday deals!

this year my trick was.. to go bankrupt.. again, just 8 years after my last one (really did not want to do that, but got unplanned large hospital bills) this instsntly freed up about $1000-1500/month in credit card payments. I found out today i no longer owe my back rent either (about $1500). The hospital, in illinois, later discovered they could bill ny medicaid, so they might get paid anyway.

My main saving "trick" is transferring a set amount of every paycheck to a separate bank account. That gives me a pool of money for unexpected expenses, larger expenses, and times when I expect to go over my normal budget.

I have rewards cards that I'm careful to pay off in full to avoid interest and other fees; then I use those rewards points to offset my increased spending for holidays and birthdays.

I use price trackers and comparison tools to help determine if a "sale" is as good as it claims. There are some genuinely good discounts, but there are also plenty of deceptive deals.

With the increase in scams and misrepresented products, I tend to stick with reputable sites and check the reputation of the seller/item. For example, searching online for the name of the product or seller along with words like "scam" or "complaint" to see what comes up.

I start my holiday shopping early, which allows me to spread the expenses out over several months rather than have it all hit in December. That can save some money by keeping my spending within budget.
