Does anyone else have accounts at TD Ameritrade that are now at Charles Schwab
[Schwab bought TD sometime in the past two year or so and is closing down TD. My TD accounts were migrated to Schwab this over Memorial Day weekend. (I don't know if all TD accounts are now at Schwab but my understanding is that all will be migrated when this is all done.)
I was on Simplifi Chat with @Coach Jorge a few minutes ago and he will update me on what can be done, if anything, in Simplifi to connect these accounts with Schwab hopefully without any loss of data.
I am going to use the "Add Accounts" option for my Schwab connected account for now and see if Simplifi will "see" these accounts already exist in Simplifi.
I'll post back when done.]
Update: This is what I did and how it worked
- Went to Setting>Accounts
- Clicked on 3 dot menu to the right of the institution - in this case Charles Schwab
- Selected "Add a new account"
- Followed the prompts to log into my Schwab account
- Newly added Schwab accounts all showed up and I was able to select which ones to add
- Simplifi gave me the option to connect the new Schwab accounts with existing Simplifi accounts.
- Selected the current TD accounts that corresponded to the new Schwab accounts
- Clicked on Add accounts and done.
If Only:
- I needed to make any changes to account identification at Schwab first to make it easier to match up with my existing Simplifi accounts.
- Somehow I selected the wrong id for one of my custodial accounts and as a result that grandkid's TD account remained behind under the now disconnected and no longer available TD heading in my Simplifi accounts list. The new account shows under the Schwab group but shows a zero balance so I'm going to have to figure out how to rectify this snafu (pardon the acronym 😳)
- I've tried a couple of things but no success in getting that one existing TD account connected with the new Schwab account. I'll keep working on it.
Update 2: All done, no big deal
After a couple of attempts to disconnect and reconnect the one missed account through "Add new account options I went with the "Reset connection" option for Schwab and that did the trick. I had to go through classifying each account and then clicked on the option to connect each account with the corresponding account in Simplifi and now all my custodial accounts are migrated to Schwab in Simplifi and TD Ameritrade has disappeared.
This ended up being no big deal after all.
