Why are assets always negative

I created manual asset account for other assets and anything I put there shows up as negative and lowers net worth.

    Try adding a "+" sign to the value amount you add to your assets.

    Not really, but sort of. Generally speaking, account registers are set up to treat amount entries as debits by default requiring some indication if an entry is meant to be a credit.

  • Not intuitive! Assets should default as positive values unless the negative sign is added and liabilities should default as negative.
