Investment balances should be consistent across the app

On the dashboard, I see one number, a different one when I click through to the investments page (portfolio tab), yet a different one when I click on balances. Which one is correct? I have no idea.

Same, the investment card on dashboard and the Investment section is off by ~$300 for me.

    @sprugman & @budgetj75, thanks for posting!

To clarify, the way Quicken Simplifi is designed when it comes to investing balances is the balance in the Accounts List is provided by the bank, and the balance in the Investments Portfolio is made up of the holdings and their current values in accordance with what's outlined here: https://help.simplifimoney.com/en/articles/5167335-how-do-my-investment-balances-update

With that, I'm not sure if Quicken Simplifi can present this data differently, but it would be great to have a clearer idea of the change you'd like to see made regarding this now that the intended design has been outlined. For example, would you rather the Accounts List display the same balance as the Investments Portfolio section instead of the balance provided by the bank, etc.?

    Please let us know!

If you go into the investment module, Simplifi displays the up-to-date value of the listed investments, however, this value isn't the same under dashboard view. The dashboard view only gets updated during a sync which can occur 24-48hrs later depending on the institution.

Having an up-to-date investment value, improves accuracy and does not rely solely on the sync process with different financial institutions.

It would be nice if there was an option to show the up to date holdings amount in the dashboard. For example I have a 401K and two Robinhood IRA's. The Robinhood IRA's don't sync with Simplifi, so I have no choice but to have it be a manual account. The 401K provider doesn't update that much, so I chose to just manually enter in the holdings.

But if I understand this correctly, in order for the dashboard and total NW to reflect the manual investment holdings correctly, I need to do a balance adjustment transaction?

Sounds much more convoluted than just having the holdings flow through to the dashboard and NW, or at least the option to do so.

This is so confusing. @Coach Natalie I think the request here would be to at least be able to choose to display which value in the accounts list (from institution vs live market).

I currently have three different values:
    1. account summary (super out of date)
    2. Investments > Portfolio (accurate)
    3. Investments > Balances (fully wrong, seems equal to about (2) + (2) - (1))

I have an equity awards account with Schwab which is affected by this issue:

In that case, the value for (1) is just very wrong, even though (2) is still right. I switched it to manual mode waiting for that issue to be resolved. I was hoping (1) would get the value from (2), but that's not the case, and I don't know how to update the balance to affect (1) (I know how to update the # of holdings to affect 2 only).

    (3) might only be so wrong today since I just switched it to manual? not sure.

Also, what value is used when calculating net worth? because my net work today is shown as fully different in the account list/dashboard and the Net Worth report page, I assume for that reason as well.

+1 to the last comment. I posted the exact same issue here, and it has not been resolved: https://community.simplifimoney.com/discussion/12561/investments-section-in-the-mobile-app-is-showing-incorrect-balances#latest

The response on both here and in my thread seems to be just "we can't reproduce this issue / this is intended behavior", despite multiple people reporting that they're experiencing this.

I have provided numerous screenshots with proof that the values are wildly different, not just slightly off. Please prioritize this ASAP.

Vanguard, Empower, and SoFi seems to have this figured out.

I don't agree with Simplifi attempting to calculate an account balance via transactions. That requires perfect transaction accuracy, and we all know that's not going to work, especially with delays in refreshes.

    My suggestion is to:

    • Get the transactions and balance for the account. Present them when requested.
      • The balance is most important
      • If transactions are missing, the balance should still be correct.
    • Add a way for users to select transactions and calculate a value on the fly.
    • But in no circumstances should Simplifi attempt to reconcile investment account balances. That is already done by the brokerage.
    • This is how I believe Vanguard, Empower, and SoFi do this.
    • The bottom line is that the investment account balance should always be the same as the brokerage's value, after a refresh, regardless of what transactions are present in Simplifi.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not going to manage my portfolio via Simplifi. Just give me an accurate balance and a ticker so I can see if things are going up or down.

    Thanks
