Recycle Bin for Deleted Transactions (edited)

It would be great if transactions we delete went into a Recycle Bin. Not only would this be beneficial for the standard reason of a straight up mistake. But sometimes the app merges transactions that are not related and even though there is an indicator, its easy to miss. There is currently no way to review what was merged so on deletion, some unknown transaction gets deleted with the intended target.

The Recycle Bin transactions would be permanently deleted after X days of course.

Youmight want to vote for this idea as it already has some traction

While the idea above has more traction, it sounds harder to implement than a simple recycle bin. I upvoted both.

I know that a very recently deleted transaction can be restored,

I would like the ability to restore a transduction after the brief period the option appears.

Another option would be to reconcile the deleted transaction with the bank or credit card record.

    Hello @Dudley C Rose,

Thank you for coming to the Community to share your feedback! There's another, very similar, Idea you may find interesting:

  • Is there an update on this? It's urgently needed and I strongly hope it will be implemented very soon!

I just accidentally deleted a transaction I was going to recategorize and then changed my mind on. I hit the button to the left of 'update' very quickly, assuming that - as is true in most software - it'd be a 'cancel' button. I now can't find the transaction and see that that button is instead 'delete'. I can't believe it deleted it with no warning before doing so, and now I can't get it back! This goes along with several other features of Simplifi as something I can't believe is still happening in professional software like this. Thanks so much for considering this request!!

I upvoted it. It would be nice in cases where you need to document duplicates you deleted as well.

FWIW, I think the ideas of "Recycle Bin" and "Auto Backup and Restore" are very different. I don't think providing one will effectively handle the need for the other.

A Recycle Bin is usually used on an object-by-object basis to examine and perhaps restore individual objects (in this case transactions). For example, Windows Explorer has a Recycle Bin where you can look at recently deleted files and bring one or more back if needed.

An Auto Backup and Restore facility is usually used to save the state of a full system — such as a database — so that the entire prior state can be restored in case of serious disruption. For example, SQL Server provides such a facility to preserve and restore entire databases to an earlier state. But everything done after the backup is lost.

It sounds like there should be a dialogue confirming the delete to prevent that from happening. That would probably be easier than a recycle bin for deleted transactions.

    I agree with that recommendation.
