More detailed CSV Exports (original name and description, flags, reviewed, check number)

Started looking at Simplifi since Mint is shutting down, and I've really been impressed so far.

I do a lot of work in Excel with my exported transactions, and three fields that would be very handy to have in the export (.CSV) are (in priority order):

  • The original transaction name/description as it shows up on the statement
  • The flags
  • The Reviewed checkbox — this could just be a tag, but it seems wacky to add a custom tag given the checkbox is already on the form.

Let me know if I should split these into separate requests.

Thanks!

Same here. The lack of the original description in the export file is a deal breaker

  • Same here, especially after being burned by the shutdown of Mint. I'm extremely hesitant to put my data somewhere that it can't be fully extracted from if I need to move it somewhere else in the future. The original description is a must-have.

I agree with this. As a former Mint user, I am keeping a raw file data in Excel with some historical charts in it The Simplifi export is usable here but I want the original statement text in the designated column in my file.

+1, please! Just seems so basic, esp for our tax records etc…

i wish this was voted higher so it gets more attention. the original description definitely needs to be included in the export.

Also, update the CSV import to include the newly added check number column.

  • +1 please - data such as account, date and payee need to be associated in the exported csv file or it requires alot of manual copy and pasting to fill in the blanks when using the data for pivot tables.

The absence of "Check #" in the CSV export is incredibly frustrating. I’ve been using Excel for financial tracking long before online personal finance apps existed, and this file contains all my financial data. I rely on it to run reports, so missing this field creates a significant gap.

Simplifi team, please address this. The CSV export includes many other fields—some not even visible in the main view—yet it omits "Check #," a key piece of financial data. This omission just doesn’t make sense. Please fix it.

I don't understand why you can't select ANY/ALL of the fields that appear on the data collection sheet. Why have the field if you can't do anything with it? Doesn't make sense.

This would be an extremely easy fix for them. I'm pretty sure they're intentionally not including fields.

I wish this request was complete, will love this capability which seems basic.

Yeah, I'm trying to lean into Quicken's features a bit. I marked a bunch of things as reviewed over the past week, hoping that when I downloaded the CSV this could kickstart my weekly review. But…flags and reviews don't work, so I apparently don't have a way to do this without resorting to trickery in one of the columns that does export.

Please let us download our data!

Why is check number missing from the CSV?? That seems so basic. Is Quicken listening? Is there an official change request for this that I can vote on?

Original description and check number is a major one for me on export. PLEEEASE ADD! Love what Quicken is doing overall....seems this would be easy to add as the info is already there

@jar310 The main reason it is missing is because a year or two ago, there was no check number in the app at all. I believe about the time another service was closing and users came to this app from that app, it was frequently asked for and added. They likely hadn't updated the export csv function since they added that.

Sorry for delayed reply, when you posted this I was "on medical leave" (away from forum) and not reading the forum.

Prioritizing this may be the main issue at this point. I understand they are working on a whole new register, the ability to hide numbers (privacy mode) in mobile app, and the ability to customize the dashboard on mobile (an updated look for that too). That's just what I know about, and i am not a Quicken employee, so i don't know what -else- they may be working on at the same time.

This is sorely needed and can't come any sooner, particularly on the "original description" front. Having migrated after the Mint shutdown, the lack of this makes me hesitant to continue with Simplifi.

Begrudgingly, I feel somewhat held hostage at the moment, unable to extract the data I'd need to migrate elsewhere. The irony, though, is having the ability to migrate elsewhere would make the feel safer sticking with Simplifi, and wouldn't evoke a feeling of helplessness.

The fact that this hasn't been addressed and remains in a "coming soon!" state increasingly makes me tempted to manually copy/paste data from each of my many transactions since the Mint shutdown and cut my losses before the problem worsens. Please make it so this isn't the case!

    Yes! @jak339 ! Exactly!

The whole point of using Simplifi is so I don't need to worry if I should be doing regular exports from my accounts "just in case"

Prioritizing making it easier to move to a competitor seems .. unlikely but at the same time may be something they should have working. The ability to backup/restore (another idea post) would seem to be addressed by having full export/import working.

I agree with @RobWilk that the most important reason for more comprehensive CSV exports is to allow users to periodically back up their data so that they can restore it in Simplifi if they encounter corruption.

Comprehensive CSVs can also be used for more detailed (or just different) reporting (for example, in Excel).

Also, I have comprehensive CSVs from my previous financial software and their main purpose for me (so far) is as an easily accessible historical record.
