Simplifi triggers email from Apple? "You requested your purchase details" (through American Express)

It's a legitimate email from Apple.

Are other Simplifi users seeing this?

Is this related to a change Simplifi made in the way it pulls in American Express data?

I just got off the phone with American Express, and they confirmed everything is fine with my American Express account (as expected). This appears to be an automated email that is sent from Apple when an App Store purchase receipt link in transaction data is followed.

Try it yourself:

  1. Sign in to your American Express account.
  2. Find a transaction from: APPLE.COM/BILL INTERNET CHARGE CA
  3. Click Show Digital Receipt.

My guess is that something Simplifi is doing – a somewhat recent change, say, in the past week or month? – is following those links and triggering the email from Apple because I didn't even know about Show Digital Receipt on the American Express website until I talked to someone in their Account Protection department about this whole thing. So I know it wasn't because I clicked one of the links myself.

I saw some discussion in a Reddit thread about this that mentioned Quicken Simplifi, and it would make a LOT of sense if that's what is triggering this because people are not doing it themselves and still getting these emails.

I've never gotten this kind of email from any app I've bought through the Apple Store. So this is new. I renew my iCloud and Apple Music every month and didn't get it. I just get within a day or two the receipt. Mind you it is bought with funds I have in the Apple Account.

Now I have only paid annually through Quicken.com, so maybe since you signed up monthly through Apple, and then Quicken renews it automatically for you. But I thought Apple was the one that renewed it. Very interesting.

I somehow doubt this is something Quicken is doing on its own. Hope others can add insight.

Could this be the new order tracking rolled out in IOS26?

@TheReal702 Nice. Well, I still have an iPhone 14, but I plan to upgrade to iPhone 20 or 21. 😃. But we'll see what @khad has.

I imagine your iPhone 14 could support IOS 26. IF you go to settings→general→updates you'll find somewhere on that screen (possibly on the bottom of screen) if support is available. (I confirmed by google it is supported). Google's AI answer says iPhone 11 and newer are supported.

Oh yes, I have iOS 26 but Apple Inteligence isn't supported yet. The article specifies you need a newer iPhone, 16 or 17 I think. I think if I remember correctly that the problem is that earlier phones don't have enough memory.

But I do have it on my iMac, and it still isn't too "intelligent". LOL

Siri sometimes opens garage door, sometimes not; sometimes he turns on the lights; sometimes not. This AI stuff is both scary and frustrating.

My iPad is stuck on an old operating system and has a big crack across the front, but we already have 2 iMacs, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads (both the same age) and my wife insisted on a Macbook, so I just cannot see buying a new iPad. Sooner or later Simplifi will probably not update on the iPad either.

Hey, folks! The email is not related in any way to iOS 26 or order tracking. It is triggered when the Show Digital Receipt link (found in American Express transaction details) is opened.

Do any of you have American Express accounts connected in Simplifi? If not, this issue would never arise for you. If so, and you have not yet received such an email from Apple, that helps rule out the possibility that everyone with an American Express account connected in Simplifi is being affected by this.

    Thanks!

@khad, I have American Express, and this has never happened to me. I agree that this is likely not something triggered by Quicken Simplifi, since the way we connect with banks is a one-way connection that only allows transactions and balances to be downloaded.

    https://support.simplifi.quicken.com/en/articles/5687989-how-does-quicken-simplifi-connect-to-my-bank

I noticed on the Reddit link you sent above that others think it's a scam. Google also told me this: "While email .apple.com is a legitimate domain used by Apple for some communications, receiving an email from this address does not guarantee it is authentic. Scammers often "spoof" email addresses to make them appear genuine, so you should look for other signs of a phishing attempt."

What do you mean by "It is triggered when the Show Digital Receipt link (found in American Express transaction details) is opened"? Is this something you are clicking within Quicken Simplifi?

I have an American Express card connected in Simplifi, but I haven't gotten one of these yet. I see that Coach Natalie is telling you she has a card too and this is likely not triggered by Simplifi.

Edit: I checked Amex account in Simplifi, the Amex App and Amex web, and I don't have any digital receipts BUT I haven't bought anything from Apple with my AmEx card.

Thanks for the replies, @Coach Natalie and @SRC54!

The email is not a scam. All the headers are legitimate. The Apple Mail app and iCloud (both controlled by Apple) confirm the validity of the message. I will be reaching out to Apple as well, but everything about the message is legitimate. It would also be a really bad scam because there are no links in the body text and no call to action. What would the scam be?

If you have not used an Amex card to make a digital purchase (app, music, movie) with Apple, you will never see the email. So this would not apply. What triggers the email is opening a Show Digital Receipt link from your Amex account.

If you have used your Amex card to make a digital purchase with Apple, you can sign in to your Amex account on the Amex website, view details of the transaction, and click Show Digital Receipt. That will open a link on apple.com that begins with something like this:

    https://vieworders.apple.com/receipts/view?partner_id=AMX118401…

Note the URL parameter partner_id. It indicates that you were sent from an Apple "partner". In this case, American Express (as indicated by the AMX).

My hunch is that the transaction data Simplifi pulls in includes a field with that digital receipt link, and somehow it is being pinged, opened, or otherwise activated when Simplifi is pulling in the data. If one of the engineers can confirm that those links are not included in the transaction data Simplifi pulls from Amex, we can rule it out entirely. However, if they are included, it might be worth checking to see if there is a bug or some test code somewhere that is following those links and triggering these emails for people who (a) have an Amex card (b) that they use to make digital purchases with Apple (c) connected to their Simplifi account.

Thanks for sharing. I'll be on the lookout for one of these next time I buy something from Apple.

    @khad, thanks for the reply!

If the Show Digital Receipt link is something that is generated through the bank, it wouldn't have anything to do with Quicken Simplifi. Again, Quicken Simplifi uses a one-way connection to download transactions and balances only; the aggregation is not designed to generate alerts or notifications from the bank. This is likely something you will need to further address with the bank and/or Apple.

If you want to provide a screenshot here of the Transaction Detail view for one of these transactions in Quicken Simplifi, we can see if there is a "Show Digital Receipt" link displayed anywhere. I suspect there is not, as transactions in Quicken Simplifi only have a "Appears on your statement as…" link in the Transaction Detail view.

@Coach Natalie, you're right. This is not something that is displayed in the Simplifi UI. What I'm suggesting is that it may be part of the transaction data that Simplifi downloads from American Express.

I've put in a request to Amex Developer support to ask them if you aren't able to ask the Simplifi dev team.

I have been receiving these emails as well since September 30, and I agree that it seems to be related to how Simplifi is pulling data from American Express. I pay my Apple subscriptions (iCloud, etc) with my AmEx. And the emails seem to come through when I log in to Simplifi and trigger an account refresh. It’s a mild annoyance, but it would be nice to know for sure that Simplifi is the reason I’m getting them.

Same issue here. Is this due to a recent change to Simplifi (around 9/26)?

  • jason2

I got one on 9/25 but haven't seen another since. Of course, Amex hasn't been updating for over a week now with a FDP-401 error, so that could be why.

I just heard back from Amex Developer support, and they said that external URLs are not included in the Accounts & Transactions API response.

If that’s true, it means that Simplifi could not be triggering the emails because they never receive the link that would trigger it.

    Color me stumped.

@khad, I am working with our engineering manager on this, and he also confirmed that the Amex API does not give us Digital Receipts. He's wondering if you, by chance, have the digital receipt attached to the transaction in Quicken Simplifi?

    Let us know!

@Coach Natalie, thanks for asking. No, I don’t have any digital receipt links saved in Simplifi in any way. I didn’t even know about them until I started getting the emails from Apple. At this point I can’t see how it could be related to Simplifi if Amex never sends the links as part of the Accounts & Transactions API response.

I have also received these emails. Once it happened right after I did a refresh on my Simplifi app. But only that one time and the other times it seems to happen at random times, and I can ‘t trigger it consistently. I also have Amex.
