Incorrect Balances and Savings Goals for all Manually Tracked Accounts and Assets (edited)

this morning - Friday 23rd - my manual “other assets” which had been affected by this week’s sudden increases ( more than double in this case) is suddenly zero balance. This was to put a value on gold. Same happed to my “other liabilities “ balance, with which I track a loan I made to others. The opening balances still show, with no other transactions-as I would expect, but balances in the accounts tab suddenly show $0.

    What’s up?

@DryHeat But they do some sort of recalculation periodically anyhow. Previously it was mentioned as every few hours, which is why I was thinking (wrongly as it turned out) that the calculations would fix themselves yesterday. If we could force it, it would only be for the user who needs it and for the account that needs it.

Whatever the reason for it, this has been a big hit on Quicken's credibility. And for those who have all their eggs in Simplifi, it is an even bigger headache. I can just look at Quicken Classic's balance and then add an adjustment to the Simplifi account. A lot of casual users aren't aware of how to choose all transactions to find the true balance in Simplifi.

We should be getting an update from a coach pretty soon. It is after 9am CST.

Edit: And just like that Coach Janean posted that the fix is processing and should rectify the $0 balances soon.

like cmallory and DryHeat i'm having the same issue. this is quite annoying as i have a good few savings goals that won't be completed for a few months (and one i don't have a real set end date for) but because of this issue they are now marked completed and now not showing up in my spending plan. if it wasn't for them now showing up in the spending plan i wouldn't care and while i believe they'll show up once i add money to them in those future months it still is quite annoying

But they do some sort of recalculation periodically anyhow.

Exactly… they do it periodically. I get the impression they run a job overnight to do all these recalculations just once per day for each manual account. (Which is why they say "wait until tomorrow.")

If I had to guess, I would say Simplifi recalculates when you add or change a transaction by just applying the net amount of that change to the currently displayed balance — not by summing over all the transactions. So if the balance is wrong to start with, it stays wrong after the add/change.

That saves computation, but continues giving the wrong answer once things get out of whack.

@DryHeat In the past when mine got out of whack, they corrected late morning central time. But not this time. Again, as you say trying to find a pattern with any of this is difficult.

The coach just posted that the $0.00 balance thing should rectify soon.

because of this issue they are now marked completed and now not showing up in my spending plan.

I hadn't noticed that, but you are right. My "completed" (not really completed) Savings Goals show up in the Spending Plan this month (Jan) because their completed date is "Jan 2026" (see image in previous post).

But they don't show up in the Spending Plan in Feb or thereafter, even though they need contributions in those months in order to really be completed. My Spending Plan is ignoring contributions in those future months.

I guess this problem is more urgent than I thought. I need to contribute to these Goals in February.

For me, the new 'opening balance' records were removed, but unfortunately, the balances for those accounts were all incorrectly reset to zero. So yesterday my accounts showed more money than I actually have, and today they show less than I actually have. 😅 I hope the fix is still in progress and we can expect better results soon.

For some reason my post about savings goals was merged with a discussion about manually tracked accounts (which is not related):

    https://community.simplifimoney.com/discussion/comment/64271#Comment_64271

Anyway… the goals now show the correct amounts, but some of the active goals are listed as completed (which messes up my spending plan).

    @DryHeat

they should show up once you've contributed to them in the month you've made the contributions, for instance once you start contributing to it in february it should show up in february's spending plan like normal but it won't show up beyond that. at least that what i think happens from what i can remember when i had forgot to adjust a savings goal i had and contributed more than i had expected causing it to be marked complete, but yea it's quite annoying.

My manual cash account was 0 as well today. I got an email from Simplifi that my account went to zero. When I looked, it was indeed 0. I edited the last two transactions so that they were excluded from reports and then it counted those two transactions in the balance, not sure why but the balance is still screwed up.

Thanks for the info. If this isn't fixed by February, I'll try your method of making a contribution anyway (I guess in the main Savings Goal page) and see what happens.

I have these accounts as manual accounts and the initial balances are shown in the Transaction Activity correctly. Also, the transactions since the initial entries show correctly, but the balance show Zero.

What additional information is need to assist with this resolution? This problem is affecting the Personal Accounts and Business Accounts as of this time.

Mine were tripled, now they are zero’d. They’re working on this - and they say it will be fixed soon. I recommend not trying to manually fix this yet - let them try.

    My observations:

    • Good: accounts have the right balance today
    • Good: net worth looks more correct today
    • Meh: balance history reports still show the spike (not the end of the world)
    • Not Good: goal balances remain incorrect

Thank you those working on the issue!

    One more data point…

Looking at my three Savings Goals that Simplifi has erroneously marked as "completed," I noticed that in each case the Monthly contribution had been changed to zero.

I changed the contributions back to their correct amounts in the hope that Simplifi might then recognize that these Goals should show up in future Spending Plans.

Sadly, the Goals are still missing in future months. (But now the correct amounts are missing! Yay! 😂)

Has anyone seen a response from Simplifi personnel regarding the issues with the Savings Goals? I've seen plenty on the account balance problem, but nothing yet on the issues with the Goals. Did I just miss it?

Thank you for your feedback and experience thus far. There are many things to like about Simplifi and I tend to overthink it (like is there a way to back it up and own a copy of the data to a degree on my end—not just exports), or other things like including notes and tags when creating reoccurring payments, or saved reports that I've customized. I suspect these features will come, but to see a big change in an account that I didn't make worries me. For this issue, it sounds like it will be fully fixed in the next few days which is great to see and I hope I didn't make a mess of it when I initially tried the workaround. I'm excited to see the active community as well. Thanks again for acknowledging my post.

Manual Vehicle accounts still don't add up correctly. Only the recently linked Kelly Blue Book are added in the total. The values of manually added vehicles seem to be ignored. This also affects net worth and assets totals. I'm now second guessing all numbers in Simplifi which is really unfortunate. A finance app that can't add properly…

There were issues over the past day or two with manual accounts, which affected assets (i.e., vehicles) as well.

I deleted and re-added my KBB account.

While the transaction in that account shows it should be valued at $11,430, it is showing a value of $0 both in the top right and in the account list.

Is this part of the ongoing problem? OR is this separate?

I deleted my vehicle accounts and recreated them too. I decided to hold off for a while before reconnecting things to KBB or Zillow. My guess is the connection is unimportant since all I think these two connections do is check the value and add a balance adjustment. I think they are still essentially manual account.

Anyhow, all my manual accounts have been right since noon yesterday, so holding my breath. I have decided not to declare victory or say very much until we get the All Clear from the coaches.

Balance history is now correct, but Net Worth Report still shows large disruptions on the 22nd and 23rd (only visible on views with daily-level resolution, fortunately).

I'm just bumping this to make sure that @Coach Jon, @Coach Janean, and @Coach Kathryn know that the fix they identified for the "duplicated balance in manual accounts" problem did not fully restore affected Savings Goals to their prior state.

The contribution amounts and total contributions have been restored, but Savings Goals that were erroneously pushed into "Completed" status by the bogus contributions remain marked as "Completed" in Jan 2026 — even though they show total contributions less than the target amount.

As a result, those Savings Goals do not show up in Spending Plans for February and future months.
