Search has gotten painfully slow
This seems to be a recent issue that started over the last few days. Searching has gotten painfully slow. It seems that with each letter I type, Simplifi queries the database again, instead of waiting until I stop typing. While this might not be so bad, what's happening now is that only a small fraction of the letters that I type are actually kept in the search box. So if I want to search for a word, I need to type one letter, wait until it shows, press the next letter, etc etc. It's quite annoying.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior? I think it started within the last week or so.

Yes. I have to type a letter, wait a bit, type another letter, wait a bit, etc. to get the entire search string in. Otherwise the latest letter I type replaces what was in the search box before.
Example: I type "dog" and the search box ends up with only "g" in it.

I'm glad to hear it's not just me!
And then I'll try again and just get the "d". Or "dg". So frustrating!

@EL1234, thanks for pointing this out!
If you're experiencing this with the new register specifically, which can be determined by your Early Access status (the new register is in Early Access only), the best place to post about any issues is in our official feedback thread. That way, our product team can see any issues while the register is in the testing stages:
If the issue is happening on the old register only, it will soon be replaced by the new register for all users! You can also switch to the new register now if it works better for you. 🙂

Good point! I'm on the new register. But I've been using it for a while and this seems to be a new issue. I'll repost over there.

@EL1234, possibly something new that got introduced. I'll make sure Quicken Kirby sees your comment in the feedback thread.
Thanks!

I'm having the same issue. If I type very slow I dont have an issue but if I type at my normal speed, it misses like half the characters.
My guess is that it's related to the fact that search is now happening live as you type whereas you used to have to type your full search term and then apply it before you would get results. I thought that maybe if I changed my view to only show transactions since 2026 that it would help as it would search over a smaller dataset, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.1 -
The same is happening to me, and with this morning's update on the web version, it's almost non-functional.

It seems if you type the first letter of your search, and wait a second, it wakes up the search function and then you can fill in the remainder of the search field. But if you just try to type the whole search, it might finally recognize the fifth letter you type, and mostly freezes. I've had it freeze to the point of not being able to clear the search field by backspacing and clicking the 'x' to clear. But in the meantime, while this is being fixed, try just typing the first letter of your search and wait until it wakes up.

I just tried that and it didn't really help, I need to wait after each letter.

The whole interface on the transactions page has become really buggy and slow. It feels like a real step backwards for Simplifi. When you revise a transaction category, it doesn't correct any of the "exclude from" indicators - it leaves the old ones - at least until you refresh your screen. It's working in the background, but not letting the user know in real time. Something really bad seems to be going on in the backend of this revision and it's incredible to think that it's being released as a live version.

It hasn't been so bad on my Mac but I have slowed down when typing, and I have a newer Mac and good Internet speed. You can turn off Early Access if it is really annoying. I tested that yesterday and it was much better.

@lwyman Because these register improvements are still being developed, I believe the typing problem will be fixed sooner rather than later. Early Access makes us beta testers. 😁
