  • When the reminder is entered will if update the balance on the account?

Can this also be done using the app?

    Thanks.

Okay I just tried it with a future-dated reminder and I'm not sure if it worked… I don't see the transaction in the transactions list (which makes sense because it's in the future) but I also don't see it (or the reminder) in the reminders carousel anymore.

Could this be another occurrence of the "future dated transaction disappearing" bug? Or is there another problem?

(I'll know tomorrow since that's when the reminder was dated :) ).

Also, one piece of feedback: I think we'd all like it if we could see the transaction that it will create, in case we want to change anything before actually creating it.

    Thank you!

This is so interesting, in the Bills section of the spending plan I do see the missing transaction! Just not in the Reminders section above the transactions list.

@EL1234, I have inquired on what the expected behavior is for future-dated reminders. 🙂

    Thanks @Coach Natalie

I can see the value in the ability to modify the date and possibly the amount before creating the new transaction. Perhaps you can inquire about that? Basically it would need to open the new transaction window with all the info prefilled, and then allow us to just click Create, or to edit things first.

    Thank you!

    @EL1234

Could this be another occurrence of the "future dated transaction disappearing" bug?

I don't have a transaction to try this with, but "disappearing" is not the behavior I would expect when I mark a reminder as paid. Instead, I would expect it to show up in the Transaction Activity list with today's date.

But that's because I would only mark a reminder as "paid" if I had actually paid it — either today or earlier.

Maybe others intend to use this to signify something else (like "I have scheduled a payment")? If so, how do you think that should work?

It might be intended to work for both. But I'd want to be able to change the date before creating the transaction, so I can choose which it represents.

Especially if the future dated version doesn't show up in cash flow projections!

"Scheduling a payment" could also theoretically mean "I mailed a check today" in which case it wouldn't show up in the bank until at least tomorrow. So that wouldn't need to have today's date. But again, let us choose!

    @EL1234

I can see why the date would be important. But I'm most concerned about the transaction disappearing. I'm not sure how much good it would do me to mark a transaction paid if I can't see it after that.

I understand you to be saying that it does show up in Spending Plan | Bills. In that listing, is it marked as Paid?

    I agree!

In the Spending Plan > Bills section, it does not show as Paid. It shows as Upcoming. However I can differentiate it from other Upcoming bills because when I click on it, it opens the "Transaction Detail" window instead of the "Edit Reminder" window.

(I'm not saying that this is good - it's not! But this is the way I know that the transaction was indeed created.)

Thank you so much! This makes a huge difference and helps a ton.

Okay well now it's tomorrow, and the pending transaction showed up. So at least that!

Our product team is working on fixing future reminders when marked as paid so they show up in the transaction register with today's date. This will be coming in a future release!

I appreciate this feature, but I'm afraid I won't use it as it seems half-baked.

I'm really curious… Why can't a future dated transaction exist in the register? When I schedule payments, I most of the time schedule them for a future date, up to 3 weeks in advance. It sounds like if I use this new feature, it won't allow me to mark something I've scheduled in the future and let it keep the scheduled date. I'm concerned there will be problems matching transactions when they actual do come in from the bank since the dates will be off by as much as 3 weeks.

Why can't the transaction just move from the reminders to the register and keep the date the bill will be paid? I've never understood why future dated transactions can't exist in the register and they have to exist as a reminder, even if they are already scheduled to be paid. This is something Quicken classic handled intuitively and we've lost the feature in Simplifi.

I noticed this playing around with the new feature, but did find the future transaction in Bills & Income. I had expected it in the Reminder Bar. I was able to change the date there of the transaction. I actually deleted the transaction since it was a test. But I am glad it's being fixed. It is not something I usually would have done because I update my recurring to the date they will happen but yeah, the expected behavior is that it should be dated today.

Also, apparently this "Mark as Paid" feature is not yet in the Phone apps? At least I didn't find it.

@Doug Hall Yep, I think it should have gone into the Reminders in the Register too. But I can see that it is hard to do everything. It is probably easiest for Simplfi make it a transaction with today's date. Then if you wish, you can change the date to the future, and it should show up in the Reminder Bar.

I will say that it is dangerous fooling around with future dates. I dated something Dec 2026 to test something once, and I then couldn't find it. I forget the particulars. It's on here somewhere and I had to change the date on the Mac to get it to show up in order to fix it.

    Stumbled over an issue.

I had a reminder for tomorrow. An associated transaction came in a day early (today). So I went to the reminder and marked it as paid.

    It disappeared entirely.

It's no longer in the reminder list, but it's also not in the list of transactions below.

I don't know if this is related to the "reminders to transactions" matter because I also had an issue an hour ago where another transaction disappeared when I changed its date. This was a real, already posted transaction.

If it's a real transaction then instead of marking the reminder as paid (which is supposed to create the transaction for you) I would instead link it to the transaction which came through. I wonder if what happened to you is that it created a new one and then they linked but kept the future dated transaction.

  • @Coach Natalie, I agree with what @Doug Hall stated. Please make a request to the develop team to make the bill reminders just like Classic. In Classic the bill reminder would show up and the user is given the option to enter the reminder as a transaction along with be able to make any edits to the reminder such as date and amount before entering it into the register. When the transaction is entered, it also updates the projected balance for the register. This works really well in Classic and I hope Simplifi will adopt this philosophy. I know the reminders update the projected balance but it is more useful for the entered reminder/transactions to update register balance and give the user the option to show which balance (Posted, Pending, or Projected) they want to see for the main page for their account balances, just like Classic. Personally, I don't care what my projected balance is 30, 60+ days out. I only care about my register balance with my manually entered upcoming transactions before my next pay check (bi-weekly or monthly depending on how people are paid)

Thank you for your assistance, hopefully the develop team will incorporated these changes.

I think you will find it in the Bills and Income section. If it were dated for tomorrow, it will show up tomorrow, I think. Coach Natalie says they are working on a fix for this so will have today's date when you mark it as paid.

The Mark as Paid option is definitely a step in the right direction, but it's only one of many reasons to create a transaction from a reminder. Maybe once the future dated fix is in place it will mostly function to meet this request, just with an unintuitive label. An example of when I might want to create a transaction other than to mark it scheduled or paid would be to add notes. For manual accounts and/or transactions, I've also started creating transactions prior to the transaction date and linking the manual transaction to the series so it will move to the register on the transaction date. Once the future date fix is in, I'll probably give the new option a try for these use cases to save a few clicks, but it doesn't necessarily mean the transaction is "paid", just that I wanted full transaction details prior to the transaction importing.
