Add a Check # field to the Create Transaction window (edited)

It's very inconvenient to go through extra steps to include the check number after creating a New transaction. Why isn't there an option right in that window to automatically allow it to be entered?

The check number field is already there, but you need to scroll down to see it. I would suggest (and have suggested before) that it be moved up to the area with Payee, etc, somewhere above the area above the Notes and Attachments section which is separated with a gray line from the fields at the top.

The availability of a check number field on the Create transaction form depends on where you are when you try to create a new transaction.

If you are viewing the Transaction Activity list of a checking account when you click on "+ Transaction," a check number field is available on the Create transaction form. (As @EL1234 said.)

But if you are viewing a Transaction Activity list for a different kind of account, or one that shows multiple accounts (some of which are not checking accounts), then the check number field will not appear.

Interesting! I guess i'm usually looking at my checking account when entering checks.

I just checked and when looking at All Accounts, Banking, or a checking account, I see the fields. When looking at Credit Cards or a specific one, I don't.

I was going to suggest that when the field isn't shown, but I choose a checking account as the bank, to show the field. But I just tried that and it works! Great job Simplifi!

@dbuelke I'm curious if you've tried entering the account and then looking for the field.

And I still think it should be higher up!

Hmm… I don't see the check number field when creating a transaction while looking at All Accounts or Banking.

That could be because I am enrolled in Early Access or because I am using the new version of the register (which I guess still has not be released to everyone). These variations get confusing.

When you are looking at All Accounts and click New Transaction, what account does the transaction have by default? Mine is a checking account. If yours isn't, maybe that's why.

I am on early access using an iPhone iOS when I click on the new transaction + I get a blank account if I select a checking account I get a check number.

You're right … the default account (shown on the Create transaction form) is what controls whether you get the check number field or not. Depending on where I am on the account tree I get different default accounts, but neither of them are checking accounts.

But like @sbennet1 says, if I change the account to a checking account, the check number field magically appears. So that should solve @dbuelke's problem once the new register is available.

@DryHeat I tested the form without early access turned on and it worked.

I wonder what determines the default account?

When I'm looking at Banking or Cash & Checking, the default is the first checking account on my list. When I'm looking at All Accounts, it's the second checking account. Is this a setting somewhere?
