Stop hiding Venmo by default
Like many of us, a good portion of my monthly transactions are Venmo expenses and reimbursements between friends, roommates, my partner, etc.
These are already annoying to individually categorize, but a few months back Simplifi suddenly started hiding these transactions by default from the Spending Plan & Reports.
I'm not understanding the logic behind this shift given Venmo is most likely to be used for expenses and income rather than some type of transaction it would make sense to hide.
It would make more sense for Venmo transactions to be automatically "Uncategorized"
I can set up these rules myself but as the system default was fine until recently I thought I'd flag it as a counter-intuitive behavior of the platform. Several of my friends who also use Simplifi are similarly befuddled by it.

Hello @bobmablob,
Thank you for reaching out! When you say they're hidden, do you mean they're being excluded from the Spending Plan? Do your Venmo transactions show as transfers? If they do show as transfers and you want them not to be excluded from your spending plan, then the instructions in this article will help:
Which reports are excluding your Venmo transactions? Have you checked to make sure your Venmo account isn't being excluded from reports? If the account is being excluded, then use the instructions in this article to include the account:
I hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply!
Venmo transactions mainly occur in my checking account (as they would for most everyone). What I'm providing feedback on is the general behavior whereby all Venmo transactions syncing with Simplifi from my checking account are hidden from the Spending Plan and Reports by default. It doesn't appear to matter whether Simplifi automatically categorizes them as Personal Income, an expense type, or a transfer.
While I'm aware how to hide/unhide individual transactions, what I am flagging is that this is counterintuitive behavior that emerged in Simplifi in the past few months (it had not occurred through most of 2025). Across your user base, it's unlikely the majority of people want their Venmo transactions to be automatically excluded since Venmo is primarily used as a payment/reimbursement platform rather than a bank transfer one.
Yes, it's possible to manually change transactions—but it's introduced a step where I have to scan my transactions to make sure things aren't randomly hidden and forced me in the new transactions interface to keep the Exclusion column active purely to find Simplifi's errors.0 -
@bobmablob, thanks for the reply!
Just to reiterate what Coach Kristina mentioned, the only type of transactions that should be excluded from the Spending Plan and/or Reports by default are Transfers. To clarify, are the transactions in question initially downloaded as transfers? Could you provide a screenshot of a newly downloaded transaction that was automatically assigned to a non-transfer category, but has the exclusion settings checked upon download, so we can get a clearer picture of what's happening?
Additionally, I want to note that transactions downloaded into Quicken Simplifi are intended for review for accuracy. Although Quicken Simplifi offers many automation features, it is still recommended that you review all downloaded transactions for any corrections needed. Though I do understand how having regular income and expense transactions download as excluded would be frustrating, and seems counterintuitive.
On the topic of automation features, something you may want to consider using is Transaction Rules, as you can set the exclusion settings via rules:
The one thing that would prevent Transaction Rules from working in this case is if the transactions are being downloaded as transfers, because rules don't apply to transfers. Again, it's important to understand how these transactions initially download into Quicken Simplifi.
We look forward to receiving more details from you!
